I grew up around 3 Brothers "african americans" Who were in Vietnam for the War and that is what they stated they used GOOKS, CHARLIE, VC. so Unless the were younger than they Looked and Mistakenly fought in the Korean War not Vietman War. the I tend to believe Larry, Willie,& Herb.......

Gook is a derrogatory term directed towards Koreans and has it's origin from the Korean war. Korea is 'han-gook' in Korean. Much like 'nip-pon' is Japan in Japanese. And I don't think I need to explain '*****' for China.

Now Charlie and VC are in fact the same thing and directed towards Viernamese. So they are right w. those. The military likes to use easily understood call signs for communication clarity. The Northern (bad) Vietnamese were called Vietcong ... short for VC, which is called out as 'Victor Charlie'. The rest was history.
