I just got my first scratch yesterday. Passenger doorside, heard a noise like a rock hitting it... and low n behold when I check it out there's a scratch. It's not down to the metal & only seems to have gotten the paint... So I just purchased some ScratchX to see if I can just fix it up.

I used ScratchX on my rear passenger door when i got my first scratch last week. It was pretty long but thank god it didnt make it down to the primer. I did 3 coats of scratchX followed by a full NXT generation wax on the whole car. No more scratch!!!

definitely try scratch-x before anything. if it doesn't get rid of the scratch it will at least make it much less noticeable.

Well I got the ScratchX today & it didn't work. Applied it about 3 times & it became less noticeable but the scratch is still there.

I'm going to a guy tomorrow... he came highly recommended by Senik paint (Vince). His name is TJ (no, not Tia Juana) - he's independent and does work for a bunch of BMW and Mercedes dealers in OC.

I have a nasty scrape in my trunk from some jack @ss that used a screwdriver (or something) to steal my black chrome emblem... I've been trying to make time for TJ to work his magic - so tomorrows the day. If he is a good as I'm being told, there will be no indication that anything ever happened.

I'll let you know how it turns out - if it's goes well I'll give you his info. (I'll take before and after pics for you too).

I was at my dads place & in his garage he had some old 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound (Part No. 03900) says safely & effectively removes 1500 grit or finer scratches. So I said what the hell (SratchX didnt work), and to my surprise it worked. It took like 4 or 5 applications but now I can't see the scratch at all. The only way I can tell there is a scratch is rubbing my finger across the surface (you can feel it) otherwise it's not visible to the eye, this stuff is great. Washed with NXT wash, waxed with NXT Tech Wax & now it looks great.

yeah, i'm not sure anything but having it re-painted is going to work for me. The scratch goes to metal, so a claims adjuster friend looked at it today for me, he said they have to take the trunk lid off, remove the emblems and then re-paint.

Mine was down to the metal too... Didn't have to worry about taking the emblem off since that's what caused the scrape (when it was stolen)... Here are the before and after.

TJ from Chip Away did it in just a couple of hours... It looks about as good as I could expect. I don’t think anyone not knowing it was done could tell. But from some angles you can see a slight color variation. There really isn't a way to fix without having that problem when the scratch/scrape is this deep.

I'm pretty happy with it. But PISSED at the @SShole that cause this ****!

TJ has been doing this for many, many years... was recommended by Vince at Senik paint in Costa Mesa... If you haven't got it fixed yet give him a call he's in Orange: 714-350-6070.

BTW he does Clear Bra too... had a real nice Coupe in his garage that he just finished when I was there today.

Good luck

Hey there.

That looks like some impressive work. How much did he charge, if you don't mind asking?

Thanks.

The comparison pics suck - sorry... batteries died right after 2nd pic and I haven’t taken the time to go out and take same angle before and after.

He charged $175, but that was including touching up front passenger door handle (I had handles and door molding painted previously). Not sure what the scratch alone would have cost.

Considering I only had three options: 1) touch up paint myself (way too big to consider doing that), 2) having the entire truck lid painted (but then the whole thing would be slightly off color from the rest of the car), 3) having someone like TJ airbrush, wet sand and polish.

choice 3 made the most sense - I would have done it at (just about) any cost.
