Here is the official thread for the LA/Irvine to San Diego Cruise. In case some of you may not have been following, we are going to have a huge cruise starting in Irvine, making a stop in Oceanside, and then going down to San Diego. I guess the “main” portion of the cruise is the 25 mile stretch right next to the ocean, but there will be plenty more driving to do! . The original thread was started here:

Here are the basic details:

Who: Open to Z’s and G’s
What: A cruise/meet from the OC down to SD
When: Saturday, November 19, 2005 (times listed below)
Where: Starts off at the Irvine Spectrum, with a stop in Oceanside, before proceeding to the Hazard Center in San Diego
Why: Due to popular demand, and allows for a large cruise/gathering for all Southern California Z and G drivers

BREAKDOWN
Irvine Spectrum
The official meeting spot for the LA/OC people will be the Irvine Spectrum parking lot. The suggestion was made that the meeting spot be by the new parking structure, which is on the 5 freeway side of the Spectrum. If you’re not sure, just drive around and hopefully you’ll see/hear the Z’s and G’s. This meeting spot is setup as a place where people from the LA, OC, and surrounding areas can gather before proceeding down to Oceanside. We will get there starting at 9:00AM and allow people time to arrive. If you’re early enough, you should have plenty of time to check out some of the cars and mingle. Please make sure to get there ON TIME. We will be departing from the Irvine Spectrum parking lot at 9:45AM. Since we have other people waiting in Oceanside and San Diego, WE WILL NOT BE WAITING, so if you’re late, you’ll proceed on your own. So do not lag, and allow yourself plenty of time.

Drive from Irvine to Best Buy in Oceanside
The LA/OC guys will depart from Irvine at 9:45AM. To get to the Best Buy (BB) in Oceanside is relatively straightforward. It’s about a 50 mile drive on the 5-South. You then get onto 78-East and take the first exit, Jefferson. Take a left on Jefferson. Then take a left on Vista Way. Continue through 2 stop lights and one 3 way stop in the shopping center area. Turn right before you enter the Wal-Mart Parking lot. BEST BUY is on the right at the next stop.

It should take slightly less than an hour for the drive, but I allotted 1 hour due to possible weekend traffic going towards SD. We should be there by around 10:45AM.

Best Buy parking lot (Oceanside)
This will serve as the primary meeting spot for ALL members (LA/OC/SD/etc.). People coming from SD, please plan on getting there at 10:45AM. Again, I have allotted 45 minutes so that others have plenty of time to arrive. We will be departing from Oceanside at 11:30AM to go on the main cruise. Again, WE WILL NOT BE WAITING. So do not lag, and allow yourself plenty of time.

Cruise from Oceanside to Hazard Center in San Diego
The drive from Oceanside to the Hazard Center will start off with a 25 mile drive along the coast. We get onto the 78-West and go straight onto Vista Way. Make a left turn onto S. Coast Highway. This portion of the cruise will be low-speed (average speed limit is 40 MPH). It is a two-lane road that frequently changes names (Coast Highway>Carlsbad Blvd>N Cost Highway>S Coast Highway>Camino Del Mar>N. Torrey Pines Blvd>Genesee).

Once we’re on Genesee, we should be around the La Jolla/UCSD area. Next, we make a left onto Nobel, and after about 1.5 – 2 miles, get onto the 805-S, and after going down for a few miles, merge onto the 163-S. Take the Friars Road exit and make right and then immediate make another right onto Frazee Rd. Frazee road becomes the Hazard Center. The final meeting spot will be the Hazard Center parking lot.




Thanks to all those who contributed to planning so far, especially MIAPLAYA and his wonderful map! j/k, it really did help in keeping this cruise alive since nobody was doing anything up to that point.
