Question Tint enforcement

Hey, I just traded up to an '06 G. I'm looking at getting my windows tinted (was thinking 35%). I currently live near DC and thats not really a problem here, but I'm probably going to be moving to SoCal (a lil north of LA) in a few months. From what I've been reading you can't legally have tint on your front side windows.
How often is this enforced? What is the fine? I don't wanna pay $200-$300 dollars for tint just to have to take it off in a few months.

Keep your plates from VA and you can get any tint you want. A friend of mine has an 06 Audi A4 with New Hampshire plates and 5% tint all around. Cops cant do anything as long as you just tell em youre going back "home" soon

I will have to agree with Klubbheads. I lived in So Cal and at least 90% or more of the cars out there is illegally tinted. Just don't tint it limo dark that is just asking for it.

Here's to hoping cops think the same way

Good Stuff.
Yea I have stone interior which is pretty light, so I don't think 35% should look too dark.
Thanks for the input.

It's a crap shoot.

90% of the cars in So Cal do not have front window tint. Not even 50%. But a lot do.

Basically, if a cop wants to pull you over, he will use the excuse of the tint to do so. The front window tint gives a cop cause to stop you. Just depends what you are doing, where you are, and if the cop is a a-- or not.

The ticket is $20 or so. a place near my house in the valley will remove the tint, and then replace it once your fix it ticket is signed off for $45.

I had 35 on the front and 20 on the back and rear of my Maxima and got pulled over. Cop made a U-turn just to give me a tint ticket.

I have 35% all around.
Last night I was next to a cop on a light (around 12am), and nothing. He just cruised away. You can see though 35% even at night, so it is usually the way to go.

First of all, tinting shouldn't cost you more than $100-150 (on the coupe), even for a top-notch installation (with Madico, Suntek, etc...), unless you are going with HuperOptik or some other exotic high-end material.

Fix-it ticket is $25.

I roll down my windows once in awhile when a cup pulls up to me.

It shouldn't be much of a problem, but remember, it's not the tint that will get you pulled over - it's the compounding of various things you do to your car that get you pulled over. Then the cops (especially L.A.P.D. dicks around here) are more inclined to rape you with all the fix-it tickets.

Dropping car - more likely to get pulled over.
Exhaust - much more likely to get pulled over.
Tint - another reason to get pulled over.
Driving aggressively - another reason to get pulled over.

All 4 - most likely you will get pulled over very soon.
Just Tint - not very likely at all.

I've driven 10 years in Los Angeles - I drove 3 years when I was 16-18 in a blacked out Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Coupe, blacked out headlights, taillights, slammed, flowmasters, 5% Limo Tint.

I used to get pulled over all the time, but I was never fined for the tints (although they did complain about them). They were not the problem. My speeding was

I got a ticket for the two front windows...it's just a fix-it ticket. But I'm not sure how much the ticket cost for just that. Because I got a ticket for tailgating....I know, I know....stupid cop just had to nail me for something I guess. Long story....but anyhow...I think it's like $10 to $20. Just go real light or just don't tint at all. IMO
