Ticket Help

whats up Texans,
I'm vacationing here in El Paso from Socal, and yesterday on my way to Carlsbad Caverns I got pulled over for going 83 on 75 miles/hr . I'm suppose to call the judge but I'm not familiar with this process. In Cali I just normally wait for the price. Any tips on handling this judge? Thanks guys, in the meantime im enjoying Texas!!!! btw, 4 G sightings so far

Not sure about way out west Texas, but here In the Houston area you normally can write in and ask to take "defensive driving" to have the ticket expunged from your record. It usually costs a bit more than $200. I was not aware that you could call in, but I would call the court and ask about the DD. Hope this helps!

Some of the smaller towns out in West Texas will let you do "deferred adjudication" for tickets when you're from out of town. Basically, you get to pay a fine and then if you can stay out of trouble for 3 months (which is what mine was) then it goes away. If you mess up, though, it goes on your record. I got lucky and got two tickets in a couple week span - took defensive driving for the first, then took DA for the second. Then I drove really slow (e.g. barely over the speed limit) for over a year.

p.s. what a crappy ticket to get written up for! 8mph over the limit is terrible. That's why you should either go the speed limit (to avoid a ticket) or 24mph over it - that way, if you get a ticket, at least you get your money's worth (and can still take DD).

Yeah, it was really crappy because I didnt think I was going to get pulled over with just 8 miles over the limit, just really sux...personally I think the California plates did it for me to get the ticket because they know I won't be back to contest it...o well.

LOL, we went to "White Sands" somewhere in New Mexico today and I just let the cruise control do the driving set to the speed limit. And for the ticket, I will call the judge tomorrow and I'll definitely mention what you guys suggested and see if that will work here in El Paso. Thanks again!

I got a lawyer to postpone two tickets until the cop didnt show and i got them dismissed for only $75. I would try that route first.
