Trustworthy Transmission Shop in Houston?

Hi all,

Do any of you know of a good transmission shop in the Houston area? I'm planning to have my shift kit installed on my 5AT and i'm looking for alternatives to the dealership. Preferably someone who specializes in Nissan/Infiniti's

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

I went with the Transgo Shift Kit from GTMotorsports. I was thinking about getting a torque converter as well but they suggested not to get it since i won't be drag racing(launching from a line) all that much.

So without the TC upgrade, what does this shift kit get you? What performance gain is to be had?

The shift kit makes shifting in manual mode more "crisper". The link below does a better job explaining than i do. This is one of preliminary engine preps for me since i'm going to install a Vortech in the near future. Maybe now I'll be able to keep up with you during another Brazos run

So how much and is it made specifically for the G35? I'm interested!

The kit is actually pretty inexpensive. It's the install that will cost. I've heard the dealer will charge around $520 for the install. Which is just the same if you took your vb out and sent it to GTM and it'll cost 1k. SGP in houston has their VB upgrade and is about 1k i'm not sure if that is installed price though.

Here is the link for the kit: http://www.gtmotorsports.com/product...cat=262&page=1

Cato,

Ok I just heard back from my Service Advisor at North Houston Infiniti (Nigel Hotsen) he quoted me the shift kit would be a 2hr install at about 110/hr. It looks like it the install won't be that bad then. I guess i'll be going to the dealership then.

Thanks NSR for posting up your suggestion though!

Just make sure they have done this type of job before, I have the same kit on mine and took it to a transmission shop that handles performance kits. Paid $515 for the install. IMO, If I was you I would choose a good transmission shop or SGP.

Make sure you install a Tranny cooler too. Look at B&M coolers for a cheap and good product.

Thanks pab for tip. I was actually searching for a Tranny cooler but didn't know which was a good one.
