Visiting Houston for the weekend...need some suggestions

Hey guys, what's up? I'm going to be in Houston for a weekend; October 10-12th. What are the best places to check out to party, eat, etc.

Visiting Houston....?

Why would you visit an area that was devastated by a hurricane/floods
within the last two weeks? I know for a fact that most of Houston was
without power for at least a week, not a place I'd visit for a good time!

I have a conference to attend in downtown Houston that weekend. That is the only reason I'm coming to Houston.

Well...if you're into clubbing and lounges there is midtown. Which part of town will you be in and we can suggest something.

Galleria is fun for shopping as long as you have plenty of time to do so. Houston has a ton of restaurants so you might want to be specific about what you're in the mood to eat and what your budget is. I agree about Midtown being a fun place to hang late night. Lots of new clubs and bars popping up there every night. Give us a little more info and we can help you out.

As far as Ike, he's come and gone, you'll be fine.

I'm going to be staying @ the Hilton in downtown Houston. I don't really want to do shopping since I can do a lot of that down here. I'm going to be busy w/ the conference for most of the day so @ night is when I'm going to get time to go out. What are some good lounges you can recommend?

I live in Houston, and most of the damage was done in Galveston. Most of Houston is for the most part back to normal, especially the Galleria area which is a very nice area with alot of really good resturants and bars. There is a Group of G owners that live in that area. Met with them and they are a good group of guys.

Cool! Staying at the Hilton America's. That's good. You're at least close to the scene. As far as lounges i've heard of the following: Bond, Drake, Swivel lounge, Red Door is pretty good from what i remember.

I would try to pick up a copy of 002 Houston when you're in town(Hilton should be able to provide you one). Or check out 002mag.com. That magazine highlights some of the bars, lounges and scene going on in Houston. The magazine usually has a map of downtown/midtown so you won't get lost.

Hope this helps you out. My gf and I would offer to meet up with you but we're out of town that weekend.

It depends on what type of crowd/environment you're looking for and what type of music you want to hear (if any). I can recommend some places based on that. I go pretty much everywhere.

Also, there's the Village. El Meson is a pretty nice Spanish restaurant there that I'd recommend. If you're into wine they've got a great wine list, ask for Cathy, she's the sommelier. If you're looking for more casual, there's Two Row's. They've got lots of microbrew beers and some great stone oven pizzas. As far as bars in the area, there's Baker St., Ginger Bread Man and a couple of others in that area.

Red Door is pretty popular as far as lounges in Mid Town, I recommend that one as well.
