Itinerary For The 2nd. Annual Texas Z Party 2009

Description

Friday June 19 at 7PM
We’re going to Sekula’s Bar-B-Que on Hwy. 6 in Manvel.

Plan on having supper and meeting our guests as they arrive in town.

This is a good old-fashioned Texas Ice house.

We’ll have special pricing on food and beer.

There’ll be a live blues band.

Bring the kids.

Expect a good time !

Saturday June 20 at 9AM ~ 5PM

We have motorsport Ranch Houston www.msrhouston.com

Reserved for the whole day…..just us….all to ourselves !

The BP/CASTROL TRACK EVENT !

This will be the perfect opportunity for you to drive your car the way it was meant to be driven…and an opportunity for you to learn to drive, if you’ve never been on a track.

We’ll have different classes…so don’t be intimidated…, beginners to racing.

Licensed Instructors will be available.

Show-n-shine car show-sponsored by AWESOME Z.

www.awesomez.org

This will be a people’s choice award with many other awards for different categories. Time to rise-n-shine with competition from across the state !

This is going to be a full day, with MSR’s adjacent kart track available at special pricing. We’re trying to have something for everybody…

Kids under 16 will be provided with kites for their entertainment at the South-West End of the track.

A Dyno will be made available to find out EXACTLY how many horses you’re putting down to the ground…with special pricing from LONGHORN RACING, located there at the track.

Lunch will be provided with each registration/entry fee paid.

Immediately after lunch, we’ll have the customary “drive around” parade laps.

This is an opportunity to take your wife, kids, dogs, etc out on the track, in a controlled environment (following a pace car/truck) and show them the line !

Around 2pm, we’ll slow it down for a while, as we have an old fashioned ice cream social.

The track goes cold at 5pm and then is when we do the awards and raffle prizes.

When we close down the track, we’ll head back to the host hotel and figure out where we want to go for supper.

Sunday June 21 at 10AM
We’ll meet in the parking lot of the host hotel at 10am for the caravan to SPACE CENTER HOUSTON! Parking is $4 and we’ve made arrangements for ½ price tickets ! We’ve also made arrangements for special parking, so that you can go in and relax and enjoy yourself without having to worry about door dings!

I went out there a few weeks ago and was looking at the helmets….they were actually pretty nice…not the usual cootie-buckets…but I would still wear a bandana, or do-rag, if it were me.

If you see yourself doing this on a semi-regular basis (our little group does several a year)…and we have probably a dozen (or more) available to us, I highly recommend buying your own helmet.

Right now, you can get some outrageous buys on Snell ‘00’s because they have a life of 10 years, so this helmet would only be good for about another year and a half.

Go ahead and buy an ’05….they re-rate them at the factory, every 5yrs.

They overlap every 5yrs.

Or…

Wait another year and buy an 2010 model.

I have a really neat article that I wrote several years ago, about buying your first helmet.

If you’d like, I’ll try to dig it up and send it to you.

We will do our best to classify drivers based on experience and expected speed on track, and I have no problems moving someone up or down a run group or two as needed to keep similar drivers on the track at the same time. If they're going too slow, then I've got no problem stomping on someone's dignity and moving them down a run group.

Hope that eases a few people's concerns. Feel free to post up here or email myself or any of the Z Club officers if you have any other specific questions about the event.

Robert, Thanks for posting this up! I keep meaning to post and invite everyone, but it's hard to keep up with all of the forums.

YES, Gs ARE INVITED!!! For that matter, anyone that wants to come and play fair is invited. The car show is centered around Zs, but it's an informal show & shine anyway so we're not picky if a G or 240SX or "other" shows up to play. We'll just use some blue tape and put a Z on the back!

Hope to see everyone out there!

I've asked a couple of local folks to join in, so theoretically there's at least 5 of us so far.

The funny thing is, 4 of the 5 all drive sedans and pretty much the same color.

Via Z Club of Houston e-mail;

Just wanted to send some information about the TEXAS Z PARTY your way…

First,

Registration is just what we expected…there was that initial rush and then registrations slowed and are coming in something like the vitamins…ONE-A-DAY.

Have you been putting-off registering?

I highly suggest that you register now.

“Why?” you might ask?....

Because THIS Saturday (May 23rd), we’re opening registration up to several area car clubs…several of which have a rather large, track enthusiast group….and when they see the bargain price of our event…I’m expecting registration to fill up the slots that are available.

And while I would prefer this to be an all Nissan Event, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, so we’ll be inviting the Mazda Miata Club, the Mazda RX 7 & 8 Club, the Lotus Club, and the Mustang, SVT Club.

The final cut-off date for pre-registration is June 12th !

If there are any slots open after this date…. THE PRICE GOES UP !

Also, if you’re paying by mail/check, we must have your check, in-hand, by May 28th or your registration is not considered complete !

So save yourself some cash, and possible heart-break and get registered now !

AND….

If you don’t pre-register, there is no guarantee that you’ll get lunch OR an event T-Shirt (both of which are included in the price). This is for the Car Show as well as the Track Registration.

We have to turn in a head-count to our caterer and shirt screener in advance…so…if your registration is not in, or not completed, there may not be enough food or clothing to go around.

On a more personal note…..at last night’s meeting, I had several people inquire about pre-registering just to attend (no car show, no track time).

I told all of these people just to show up and pay at the gate.

Unfortunately, I gave you some bad information.

Even if you plan to just attend….PLEASE GO AHEAD AND PRE-REGISTER !

So…

What are you waiting for?

You know you’re planning on coming…so go ahead and register.

Go to: http://texaszparty.com/

You’ll be glad you did.

David

C'mon you guys! I'd hate to be the only G out there.

Even if you don't join the track session, it's only $10 to register and join in on some of the activities!

Robert, i failed to do it while registering, but can you post the fees and what's associated with each level? That part could really go up-front, even on the website, since it's not visible until someone tries to register.

Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks!

By the way, IIRC, the Karting area also has helmets. You guys are correct, they've got some pretty good helmets and i believe they also provide clean head socks. I didn't ask about the rentals, though.

As for the actual track, unless something changed recently, MSR only requires SA90 rated helmets. Although it's always good to get the highest rated one available.

A few things to point out..

Yeah, the website could be a bit more organized. We have a very 'zealous' webmaster that likes to do things his way. To him, it's perfect. To the rest of us... well... it could be easier.

Helmets--- that's been covered above. MSR has very nice helmets for rent.. better than my track helmet, and they keep them clean.

TRACK RULES....
It's been brought to my attention that a few people are concerned about overly aggressive driving by others on the track.
The organizers of this event have been participating in track events for 20+ years and WILL NOT TOLERATE over-aggressive idiots on track. Several of us are licensed racers, and all of the instructors and corner workers will be supplied by the track- so you can be assured we have skilled help at the event.

We all want to be able to drive our cars home and don't want some other shmuck wrecking out pride and joy.

There will be passing ONLY on the straights and ONLY with a point-by. If we hear of anything to the contrary of that, we will immediately black-flag the offender and bring them in for a talk. If they're not letting people pass, the first stop will be a warning. If people are passing without a point, the first course of action will be sitting out the rest of the session. If they're simply being too aggressive or driving like an idiot, they will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. But like I said, WE WILL NOT TOLERATE BAD DRIVING.
