Tapping noise from the engine

Update please!!
Mine started doing the same thing this morning. It started to diminish when warming up so I guessed it was a lubrication thing. I immediately shut it off and checked oil. It was between the hi/low mark but on the low side. I topped it off and it seemed to help, but not sure if 100%. The noise was non-existant after idling 5 mins and then I decided to goto work. Its 2005 with 53k miles on it.

ok i guess i'll update.
It's been three days now and I haven't heard the noise. Weather conditions the same and engine has cooled overnight. I guess I know what the engine sounds like when it's low on oil. Yikes, never seen that before in a car. I was only about 0.7 quarts low and the level was still above the low mark.
Something I'll have to watch more often since it seems we have oil issues with this beast.
