Looking for a way to improve gas mileage?
My wife has an 07 G35X that she drives approximately 2 hours a day in. She only gets about 18 mpg now, which is a little bit lower than I expected.
I would like to get a chip or some sort of programmer to help lower these costs if possible. Perfomance is a distant third on the priority list. Price would land second.
Thanks in advance for any help.

If performance is not the key, but economy is:
1. Keep tire pressures on the high side (35-37)
2. Make sure the wheels are aligned
3. Using synthetic oil of the right weight for the car and season.
4. Drive in a fashion that will allow less braking and more cruising. Anticipate conditions in advance.
5. Use Cruise Control when safe to do so.
6. Don't drive over 70.
7. No jack-rabbit starts
8. Make sure your air filter is cleaned or replaced at recommended intervals.
9. Keep air conditioner compressor off if not needed.
Even if some chip tuning could improve economy some, it would take a long, long time to recover the cost of the tuning.

1) I have 35 in the tires now
2) The wheels need to be rotated currently. As of now they feel like they are properly aligned.
3) I am thinking of making the switch to Mobil 1 soon. She has 10k on the car now.
4) My wife drives the car, I have no control over her driving habits
5) Cruise control is difficult to use on Rt 95 in Phila. Staying alive is hard enough
6) You can get shot for doing less than 70 on Rt95 in Phila.
7) Her car has this problem big time. Anyone esle have the lunging effect when starting? It drives me nuts. My last Mustang pulled 1.50 60' with no problems and yet it still could not prepare me for the annoying lunging of her car from a dead stop. I keep wanting her to take it back and see if they can fix it. It is the only gripe I have with this car.
8) I have to check the filter. Thanks for the reminder.
9) Again it is hard for me to get the wife to remember things like turning off the AC.
Does anyone have a suggestion as far as some sort of piggy-back computer programmer to help with fuel mileage? Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Oops just saw this in Fortified's post: "Even if some chip tuning could improve economy some, it would take a long, long time to recover the cost of the tuning."
They are that expensive to tune? Nothing is available off the shelf? I guess I am used to the effects of aftermarket tuning on my diesel. The mileage increases are substantial and their is relatively no tuning involved.
I may try to clean up the intake/exhaust, but I really don't think I can do that and recoupe the investment in efficiency. It would take years.

I average around 21-23MPG with my X. I'm running Amsoil and now keep tire pressure at around 35 psi. 75% hwy / 25% city. Cruise control and under 70 are also good points. You may want to turn on the instantaneous MPG meter on dash display. This may help your wife see how her driving habits affect fuel economy.
I still have not tested out fully whether snow mode would help fuel economy or not since it desensitizes throttle input. Maybe better mileage in the city?
