Resale Possibilities for Osiris

I'm just wondering if, when I decide to sell my car down the road, how much money I can "get back" after having an Osiris tune done. For example, you can buy a Cobb Accessport for $600, then after using it maybe resell it for $500 because it has been unmarried.

Does it/can it work similarly for an Osiris tune? I know we're talking about off-the-shelf tunes vs custom tunes (i.e. Osiris), but i'm just wondering about this. If I spend $500 on Osiris and can only get $50-100 back, that's quite a hit. But if I can get $300 back, that's better.

Thanks!

like anything in life - market value depends on lots of things...

IMO, with the current economy, I wouldn't buy any car mod based on resale value... plan on limited to no market since disposable income isnt big for many people these days...

resale will depend on when you sell of course... if the market is good, there will be more potential buyers - I'm sure this is not something you havent thought of...

As it pertains to worth compared to other mods - I suspect it would recoup more than almost all other due to wear factor (or lack of).

The primary thing to consider is what would the position of the buyer be? Is your "used" price far enough cheaper to make it worth not buying new? A used Osiris license for $50 less than retail is a much better value than a used exhaust for $50 less than retail (for example).

But a potential buyer might feel it's less hassle to buy from a dealer/vendor than private party (considering the steps it would take to transfer license).

I wouldn't by Osiris (or any other tuning option) based on resale value... buy it for the enjoyment during the time you own/lease the car.

I get that...but that doesn't really answer my question. Is Osiris' price mainly based on the hardware (expensive cable, cheap to buy a new tune), or the software? In other words, if I was to unmarry the tune from my car and sell the cable/license, how much would someone have to pay beyond my selling price of the cable in order to get it to work for them?

The value is in the license... you would need to work with UpRev to have it transfered... I'm not sure what (if any) they would charge - but I seem to remember reading $50 somewhere... check with UpRev to be sure.

My point was - if you are selling for only $50 less than retail (for example), it might not be worth it to a potential buyer to go through the transfer and what not... personally I'd just get a new one. On the other hand, there is zero wear on this kind of mod so used is identical to new.

Ive kinda wondered this also.. My car is tuned by Osiris from Church Automotive. I didnt get a cable or any info that says that I have it. If I were to get rid of my car, which I'm not, is there any $$ to recover with the license or whatever.?

Ok, so a properly unmarried tune/cable can be sold and activated on a new car for about $50 then? Does that give the new user three new etunes?

not unless you had Shawn (or whoever) return you ECU to stock and worked with UpRev to transfer the license to a potential buyer...

IMO it's easier to just add it as a selling point of the car (when you sell the car)... even for someone that isn't into the performance aspects of Osiris, it sill has ability for valet mode - which could also be considered a theft deterrent since they can't get far (very fast anyway) if you have it set at 3Krmp... and econo mode to allow for low octane fuel and potentially better gas mileage. And of course if the new car buyer is into performance, the tuned ECU is a good selling point.

don;t quote me on the price, that's from recollection and I could be wrong about the $50... you'd have to call UpRev to confirm.

All the new user is getting is the license... their ECU would need to be tuned with it. If you did e-tune (the email deal that UpRev has) then you'd have to work that through UpRev to see if they will provide an e-tune for the new user (I'm sure there would be a fee for that though). Otherwise the new user would need to pay for someone to tune their ECU.
