Tuner question
Tuner question
I come from the chevy world where they do mail order tunes. You send you computer to someone and they send it back tuned fro like 300 bucks. I there anyone like this in the nissan world?
What are realistic gains? I have md 5/16,ztube,grounding,coupe mid and will have a rear section by the time I do it. I dont understand most of the tune process so break it down for a stupid person
Where do you live? Easiest way would be to go to www.uprev.com and find a protuner near you, go there and have them tune the car. The Osiris program is software that they flash onto your ECU that allows you to tune it, there are several different ways to get it but it costs anywhere from $500-800
So I can do the osirus flash service if im as deep as ill go. I just mail my ecu and they tune it based on mods and send back or the standard for 500 and go to a close dealer and have it done

If you can find a good tuner that won't charge a leg/arm for the tune, dyno tuning is the way to go. You'd still need to pay the $300 license fee for the software on top of the cost of tuning. You'd get dyno time and a before/after chart to see what gains you made.
Think of what money you've spent on mods so far- you're really only cheating yourself if you choose to do the mail-in.
You don't ever have to take your ECU out of the car, Osiris works with a USB cable that you connect to the OBD2 port on the car and transfer electronically to the ECU while its still in the car.
If you buy the standard, you pay $500 and uprev sends you a cipher cable to connect to the ECU and an "etune" which is basically a semi-generic tune for your car based on what mods you say you have. probably 75% performance gain.
If you go to a dyno shop and get tuned on the dyno, you will get a 100% spot on custom dyno tune for your vehicle, but will not get the cipher cable ($200 from uprev and very handy for monitoring/ datalogging engine parameters) they will charge anywhere from $500-800 depending on the area and how much personal attention your tune gets.
If you buy the tuner version from uprev, you pay $700 and they send you a cipher cable with all the tuning software and the Osiris license, you get the ability to tune the car yourself and make any changes you want at any time, as well as return the vehicle back to stock and use the license on another vehicle or sell it. Lots of guys purchase the tuner version just so they have the ability to monitor and check on things themselves, in addition to an "etune" from uprev for $50.
If you're interested in a tuner version shoot me a PM I have one for sale for a lot less then 700

Last time, for 500 I can go to a local tuner and have 3 maps tuned? I want a base economy tune were I can run around town or whatever and a full tune if im looking for fun. I d consider a base octane tune for long trips were the 7 to 10 dollars a tank would make a diffrence. Should I be afraid to tune a 105k vehicle

It would not harm the car at all, just make it run better
I'm a GM pro tuner and I'll honestly say that I've pulled quite a few off the shelf maps that where horrid. That being said UPREV's Master rom for my car was not that far off from what I actually did tuning it. So If your car is cookie cutter I don't see a reason to not go with a uprev reflash. Don't let Peak numbers get you down. The drivablity after tuning my G35x was day and night difference.
By master rom do you mean the generic rom file for the ecu? Or the tuned rom they sent you? Because the "master" rom file is 100% stock... just the version that is tuneable
actually your incorrect, Just flashing there rom goes from 13.5's at wot to 12.5's and picked up over 5awhp. if you like I can post all the graphs and wideband readings to show you. I also flashed back to stock and made a pull with all my mods just to compare. I made 15 pulls trying out various configurations.
