Sup G35driver!

I've had my G for almost 2 years now, I took my time to slowly gather the parts I want, spent many hours googling and reading the forums about advice, opinions from the elderly here and gain enough knowledge to put it all together. I was going to cheap out on mods but I decided not to since this is my pride and joy (weekend car). I did not started a thread asking 'what is the best exhaust?' blah blah since everyone is unique with their own preference. I took my time to read, watching youtube, going to meets and googling and this is the setup I've come up with (NO REGRETS!)

I am hoping that new members will do the same, it is your car, do as you please and gain knowledge by reading and searching. As a thank you to g35driver, here's my dyno sheet.

I did not expect much with just all bolt-ons but there is one area that I was really impressed with result, can you see what it is?




Yellow - mods with no tune (pretty good w/o a tune)
Green - final tune
Redline @ 7200 rpm

They tried installing a generic brand CAI and it lost 10whp haha, I am glad I did not waste $$ on those, thank you G35driver.

Overall, I am happy. Car is more responsive now and don't hesitate past 5k and still keeps pulling.

Isn't it nice after the tune how the car loves to play past 5k? Feels like a different class of car after the tune. Pure butter.

 

Before tune = 253whp, 232tq
After tune = 263whp, 251tq

 

Ah, very nice TQ increase. That's the most important part!

 

Exactly torque is what surprised me the most! It definitely put a smile. Before at 5k I feel like the car is just making noise and not moving anymore lol, now it's all smooth with throttle response n can pull more up to 7k. I think I'm done with bolt ons, just maintenance and monitoring oil lol

I'm curious what's up with stock tune. Mine had that exact same dip around 4500 rpms before the tune. It was almost like the car was like "oh, you really do want to go fast, VTEC yo!"

Nice gains, tunes really bring all the things together.

 

I always assumed stock tunes were set as a compromise of performance vs. emissions, mileage and reliability (design margin on engine parts) etc.. There are probably always easy gains to be had but will come with some kind of consequences that the OEM wasn't willing to accept. Look at the absurd gains to be had with tunes on turbo diesel trucks and old 2 stroke watercraft. The designers left lots on the table and somebody is always willing to push the limit until they blow up. It looks really tempting until something breaks. This and another recent thread about tuning even stock setups has made me want to do this. But I just can't quite bring myself to spend that money on a car that might not last that much longer.

 

pssh, do it. My car has nearly 230k miles on it, burns oil, and I added ARC features practically as soon as it was available for revups. Enjoy it until it blows.

 

I think the stock tune was done in order to have an idea of where the car currently is making w/o a tune. I'll need to verify that with my tuner.

230k? wow, I am hoping mine will go for 300k lol!

Car that won't last? how did you come up with that statement? are you speaking from your own experience with your G? When I got mine, I already knew about the cons of this car eg. oil consumption, csc failing, window motors etc.. I still went and bought it because I love the car. Up to this day I never had an issue with the G aside from OC which I don't mind dealing with.

If you know how to take care of your car, it will last forever. Don't hesitate to get a tune. It is worth it!.

 

what are the features included in the arc license?

 

2-step launch control
No lift shifting (flat foot shift)
Burnout mode
Rolling anti-lag (useful if boosted, not so useful N/A)

No lift shift is the most useful feature for a daily. Burnout made for a cool video when my tires were already done.

 

Flat foot shift means you don't let go of the gas pedal? Will that cause harm to the drivetrain and engine?

 

You can damage your clutch and transmission if you're treating it like it's a dogbox or just being stupid. The flat foot shifting triggers a soft rpm limit for as long as the pedal is WOT (or close) and the clutch is depressed, I think the stock ARC rev limit for FFS is like 3k rpm but you can have it programmed for wherever you want it. Don't try this on a vehicle without specific programming for flat foot shifting, you can definitely over-rev and smoke the clutch or break something!

This vid is a G37 but it still gives a good idea what exactly is going on, you can hear the rev limit cut every time he shifts.

 

Just added the arc license yesterday with both 2-step lc and ffs.The lc went smooth on my first try set to 3k. With the ffs, my head is set to lift the gas pedal everytime I switch gears so burnt my clutch twice (7k over-rev) I need to practice this more LMAO! But man it's so FUN!!!
