Can an iPod be played?

Hey all,

Can an iPod be played from inside the G35? I keep hearing/reading it can play mp3, but is that just on CD?

Don't have Nav.

there is an aux input in the center console compartment. It plays video as well.

I saw that aux input. It's the three holes right? You can guess by my question that I'm technically challenged... So how does it work? I've got my iPod sitting right here. Do I need to buy some aux-to-iPod cord?

No, you need to buy an iPod AV cable. There are several of them on the Apple site. But I would probably shop around, since you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

there is nothing special about the Apple IPOD AV cable. Apple simply reversed the Right Channel Audio with the Video signal. So if you have an 1/8" stereo jack to RCA cable (Yellow Composite vid, Red Right channel Audio, White Left Channel Audio) - take the Yellow and switch it with the Red when plugging it in. A lot of people think the iPod AV cable is the only thing that will work - nope. Just take the same cable that came with your camcorder or buy a cheap 1/8" to RCA cable.

For audio, you can listen to the Ipod while driving but for Video you have to be stopped - unless you illegally mod the e-brake cable sensor.

related question: if i were to use the AV interface vs just a miniplug to RCA connector from the headphone output, would the ipod send a line-level signal that bypasses the (ipod) volume control?

Thats the easiest thing to do. Go to Radio Shack and get a headphone jack to RCA cable. Then plug your iPod to the car and set the volume (i set mine all the way up) and then use your stereo volume control to set the desired level. Just remember to turn it down before putting your headphones on...

OH- ugh, I need to read more carefully in the mornings!

From my experience with my Zen, no, the player volume control will still control the volume. So, it will still be necessary to turn it up or set it where you like- Again, I turn mine all the way up. Seems to be the closest I can get to Radio like volume, so if I switch from Aux to FM it doesnt blow my ear drums out-

well, that's why i was asking about the AV interface vs the miniplug output. I expect the miniplug output to be headphone-level with volume control. What I'm inquiring about is whether the AV interface audio output is a fixed output level or not.

no big deal, sounds like a detail question that isn't really important

I use the AV outs of my Zen Vision M. The sound is great and has the benefit of not going through two volume controls.

You can buy an Ipod dock (either apple brand or not) that will bypass the headphone jack and give you a line-level signal. I find to to provide a better signal than going through the headphone jack and turning up the volume on the ipod. Most of the docks also have a way to charge the ipod at the same time.
