Is there instructions on how to pair the phone with the G?

Well, after waiting in line for 1.5 hours (well, I didn't get in line until 5 minutes before opening), the local store ran out of the 8GB iPhone. Fortunately, my wife is travelling in the West coast, and I called her before the opening there. Good thing, since she was able to pick one up (and she only had to wait in line less than 5 minutes)! She's flying back this weekend, so can't wait to get it.

Yes, the iPhone User Guide has instructions on how to use the iPhone with Bluetooth devices. I've only looked at it briefly, but it looks like the "pairing" procedure is similar to the procedure used with other phones.

The manual also said:

"In some cases, your contacts list transfers to the car kit and you can start a call by looking up a contact on the car kit’s display."

I wonder if the iPhone can upload its contacts list to the G35?

EDIT: here's the link to the iPhone manual. Page 37 has the information on using it with a bluetooth device:

Interesting. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I suppose the G35's AUX input works just fine, although it would be nice to control an iPod/iPhone using the steering wheel. I bought a Scosche RF remote control for my car, which attaches to the steering wheel. But, it was DOA. Still trying to find a good RF remote that can be attached to the steering wheel.

I suppose one advantage of an AUX input is that you're pretty assured that many years down the road (assuming you still have your car), just about any device will be able to plug into the AUX input. With an iPod dock connector, one has to worry about whether future generations of an iPod/iPhone will continue to be controllable by old software/firmware installed in a car years earlier. Car manufacturers generally don't provide firmware updates for their electronics, so if the 10th generation iPod comes out, will a 2007 car be able to control it via a dock connector? I believe this was a problem with some aftermarket iPod/car integration kits when the 5th generation iPod came out.
Given the choice, I would like BOTH an AUX input and an Ipod dock connector in my car.

Let us know once you pair it with your G35! I'm also curious if it can upload its contact list to the G35.

iPhone pairs fine with G35. Better than my previous blackjack, in fact, so far. Still trying do download contacts etc...something I've not yet been able to do with ANY phone. Have not plugged it in to jack yet, but I suspect it will be fine.

Good to hear! Thanks for the info, blzbub. I just got my iPhone tonite. Haven't had time to set it up yet. It would be great if the iPhone's contacts can be uploaded to the G35. If that works, the next question is: is there a way to only upload certain categories of numbers, rather than all the contacts in the iPhone.

Pairing the iphone is easy. I just can't figure out how to send my contacts to the car's address book. Apparently it should happen automatically as I've read other cars such as BMW and Audi did.

I still don't know how to upload the iPhone contacts to the G35. I assume that if it is supported, it would have uploaded the contacts during pairing. I assume it's an issue with the iPhone because the G35 supports it with other phones (but not many). For G35 owners who own an iPhone, please submit an online request to Apple to have iPhne support uploading to the G35. I'm assuming no change has to be done on the G35; besides, we'll probably have more luck getting a change from Apple than Infiniti, given that Apple is more computer savy than a typical car company. Since I have hundreds of contacts in my iPhone, I would prefer that we have the option to only upload the iPhone Favorites rather than all the contacts. Please mention this as well if you feel the same way. Here's the Apple online request form:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

The more folks submit a request, the likelier it will be done.
