Navigation Update

I've searched google and the manual, can't find an answer. How do you get a new update for the Hard Drive based Navigation found on the 2007. I assume that they come out with updates on a yearly basis. Is it something that's updated automatically? Do I need to download an update to a compact flash or a CD? Where do I go to buy it from on the 'net??? Or do I need to go to the dealer? Thanks for the help in advance.

Is there any way that they would update the items that are locked out while driving? I would think that it's just software that disables the menu options.

The Zenrin site says "New map update of DVD 7.3 and DVD 6.6 will be released on October 1, 2007."

http://www.zenrin.com/infinitiSystem.asp

These updates seem pretty pricey. I wonder if it makes more sense to update every 2-3 years rather than annually.

I guess it depends on where you drive and how often they have new roads out there. I know mine still thinks it's ok to get on the FDR on a ramp that has been closed for months now, and the old route -- that was closed when the map data was updated -- is now open.

And there are a few places in BK -- it tried to send me up what is now a pedestrian walkway the other day -- where the map data shows roads that are just not there anymore period.

But I wouldn't update for small things like that, though. Now if it's highway info in TX or one of those places where there's new construction going up right now, that's another story.

I sent them an email yesterday and got a similar response

"The update for your vehicle is still pending. The exact method for updating the HDD system in your vehicle has not been determined. Please check back with us in November, hopefully we will have more information by then."

I didn't get an answer to the actual question I asked in the email:

"I wonder if Zenrin provides a data sheet for the update detailing changes to the last version such as fixes, updates to maps, and a list of cities or localities where greater map detail has been added?"

I'd like to know exactly what the update includes before buying it.

hmm.. I wonder what the dealer will charge to do the update. So much for updating through a CF card.

I just got back from the dealership, and they told me the cost was over 680 bucks! Then they gave me the zenrin.com Web site to get it cheaper. Funny, if it has to be done by the dealership.
