the size of the card is not the problem, its the # of songs on the card. the system is limited to 512 songs. so there really is no need for a 4+GB card.
i got the 16 cuz alot of my songs are BIG LONG songs, and will overfill a 4gb card. regardless of the card size, you can only have 512 songs on it.

there is no ordering in the G system, it reads the songs in the order that they were written to the card. so if you want a specific order, you have to copy them to the card in that order. i know, it sucks..

Any size CF card will work. The issue here is not the size of the CF card, but rather that getting anything bigger than 2 or 4 GB is overkill because only 512 songs will be recognized regardless of CF card capacity.

If your MP3s are of average length, then you should be able to fit all 512 of them on a 2GB card, otherwise, if they are longer songs you can use 4GB or bigger card.

sooo, in theory, you could use a 2048GB card if all your songs were 4 gbs in size.

i would love to be rolling around with 2 terabytes of music in my G. HAHA

This sounds like the same type of limitation as my old SLVR phone had on it. You could put larger flash cards in it but the firmware would only allow 100 songs to be read off it. Someone out there came up with a hack to the firmware but there are more people who bought that phone and wanted to hack it than a G with a nav system...I haven't used my CF slot yet because I still haven't come close to filling up the "Music Box" either. It just takes a lot of time to rip all of the CDS I own but I know that I'll have it filled at some point.

I got a 4 gig card and filled like 600 + songs and only the 1st 512 are available others are not even displayed on the Nav..... if were are able to combine all the songs into 1 song from a CD then we can store more songs on the CF but then again when we go Next it will go to the next Album...
well .

Old *** thread. Came across it on Google.

But yeah, it's limited to 512 songs. Just found out. I was pissed, I was deleting and restoring, reformatting, anything that could fix it but nothing. Oh well, I guess I have to delete some stuff.

You can put more than 512 songs. The limit of 512 songs applies only to a single folder.

You can make four folders, each with 500 songs in them.

I had a 2007 G35S and worked fine like that.
I upgraded to a 2010 G37S and have an 80Gb iPod now.
