Inside the non-nav audio/video system

Has anyone really tinkered (in the hardware sense) with the audio/video system in the non-nav G? I'd love to see some schematics of the thing, especially with regard to the button panel (where the big **** is with the buttons on either side), and the screen.

Failing that, how hard do you think it would be to get a complete system (HU, screen, buttons, etc) to play with?

um, im not sure why you would need to do anything with the screen, especially with the buttons. could you be more specific on want you are trying to do?

I doubt you can get schematics for the PCBA under the ****. It was meant to be replaced if broken, not serviced.

You can always hope to find one at a junk yard.

Primarily, I'd like to steal the video output to the screen an run it into a different video device, ultimately into a different display, and steal input information from the buttons/****. Sounds like I'll need to find a junkyard that has all this stuff...

I believe you should be able to tap into the harness to the LCD screen to get composite video out, but I have not had time to try it myself. Check out the service manual for the wiring diagram to the LCD and see what you can learn.

Does someone have an electronic version of the service manual? Where do I get that? Either way, it'd be nice to have a dummy setup to mess with anyway..

Also - it would be awesome if the HU was just feeding a composite signal to the LCD. That would make life much simpler. I was expecting that the LCD is being driven directly by a video device in the HU.

btw - terry, did you previously own a maxima with sound deadening?

I am positive the LCD gets an RGB signal. Also, note the back up cam equiped cars have what appears to be an additional dedicated composite input.

Nope, never had a max, but I am in sister site maxima.org a lot too.
