Bose factory Tweeter upgrade
Bose factory Tweeter upgrade
I have a set of old Infinity kappa 5.25in components. The speakers have never been used and are still in the box so I figured with an adapter they would be better than the stock 6.5in speakers even though they are smaller. After looking at the forums I realized that they won't work (or al least won't work well) because they are 4 ohm speakers. My question is can I at least use the kappa tweeters with the bose factory 6.5in to get a little more highs. If so, should I just hook them up directy to the stock wires or use the passive crossovers that came with the speakers. I will upgrade eventually to a good set of 2ohm speakers but I am trying to work with what I have for the time being (I'm short on money right now).
Also has anyone used 4ohm speakers with the stock amp? I know they won't be as loud but will they still be better than stock???
I just can't stand the sound of the stock bose system and want to try and get a little more out of it using what I have if possible.
Thanks for your help.

Hey racerg35, I had a similar problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee (roughly 6 years ago). I had an Infinity Gold system in the vehicle (which is somewhat close to the bose in our G's). I ended up replacing the tweeters and it was a nightmare because they overpowered everything else. You may run into this situation where none of the sound from the different speakers compliment each other. I eventually replaced everything, but had to replace the headunit and add amps (because of the 4 ohm verse 2ohm situation). It was roughly $2g before installation, but it sounded amazing. I think the best situation if you want to replace the system is first get you a decent amp and then tie it in to your stock system and wire it to the speakers your replacing. Also if you get any subs make sure you spend the time to dynomat the car. I've got the stock bose system and it sounds pretty good for factory. Your going to have to spend some good chunk of change to get a system that sounds better and then a lot more for labor (unless you DIY). Keep us updated on how your sound adventures go.
