After-market solution for Bose Bass
After-market solution for Bose Bass
I am looking to add a little more punch to the stock Bose system in my car. I have looked around but can't find any write ups on what people have done so far.
Does anyone know how big a PITA it would be to toss a solo baric in the back and run a gain control **** to the blank switch panel between the seat heaters?
Any links or pics to what people have done in the past would be hugely helpful.

i don't have any examples to quote here but what you're asking to do is quite easy. just run the wires like you would any other amp and then fish the gain **** wiring under the carpet into the trunk. what you have in mind is quite low on the complexity scale, you should definitely do it.
i already ran my sound and power cables for my alpine sub box but haven't hooked up the line out converter yet. maybe this weekend. i don't have a gain **** for mine but just make sure you shop around for an amp that supports it.

I just added bass to my car today.

The added bass is amazing. they ended up mounting it flat on the passenger side with the driver pointing up and the port facing the driver side. The box is only 5 inches deep so it takes up almost no room but it put out a ridiculous amount of bass. I have the gain set about half and the bass on the head unit flat right now and it really sounds great. I'll get some pics of it this weekend.

honestly if its well done an 8" is more than sufficient. i was running a 10" alpine Type R dual voice coil at 500W at it pounded like a 15" speaker.
8" in a properly ported box should be quite nice, especially if you're not looking for window shaking bass.

I put it in the trunk. Its smallest dimension is about 5 inches...small but not small enough to go under the seat. I didn't get a chance to snap pics this weekend....I did alter the settings on the amp a little bit--raised the crossover point from about 75 to about 90 hz and raised the output from half to about 5/8ths. This allows me to keep the bass setting at the midpoint but still hits hard enough.
It's not shake the cars around you bass but it really fills in perfect for me. Those songs where I am used to feeling the bass hits in my chest now actually hit me...and those songs with serious bass shake all of the mirrors and vibrate everything.

one of the other members here pointed out this great LOC which has an adjustment **** built in:
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...hp?prod_id=446
i'm thinking about getting one myself.
**EDIT**
ok technically it's not a LOC, it goes inline so you can control the level remotely. my bad.
