we cant rotate sport wheels and tires?

I was talking to the service guy today about rotating my tires. he said i cant rotate sport wheels and tires. since they are directional and side specific.

is this true??

i know the front and rear tires are different sizes but i thought we could rotate the rears and fronts from side to side...

anyone know about this?

I believe the operator's manual say no rotating, but there is nothing on the tires that say they are directional. They just say which side is OUTSIDE. I guess that would mean you can rotate them side to side ... but what would that really buy you?

Any tire experts out there want to chime in?

If the tires say OUTSIDE on the sidewall then they are asymmetrical tires, meaning they can only be mounted one way and one way only... with the OUTSIDE letters on the outside of the wheel. If you had directional tires then you could rotate them side to side. You can still cross asymmetrical tires but what good would it really do if you have identical alignment specs on both sides?

If a tire says "outside" on one sidewall, but without directional indicators, shouldn't you be able to rotate them left to right and vice versa since the tire would be installed w/ "outside" facing out regardless of whether it's installed on the driver's or passenger's side?

That said, it does make sense that there is no benefit to this since the left and right alignment specs should be identical.

This would only be true if your alignment on one side was out of whack causing excessive tire wear on either the left or right. In this scenario, rotating left to right would help extend the life of the tires by evening out the wear.

However, the obvious solution to this is to fix the alignment, not rotate the tires. If your alignment is set properly, and your tires are inflated properly, the left and right side tires will wear evenly.

Directional tires can revolve in one direction only. Wheel rotation from front to back, back to front of vehicle only.
Asymetrical tires can revolve in either direction. This is what the stock 18" tires on our G35s are. You can rotate from side to side, because the "outside" indicator will always be on the outside of the tire.

Yeah you can't rotate them, you could just swap out the rear driver's side tire with the front driver's side tire and so forth, but the size of the front tires is different than the size of the tires in the rear so that means...you can't rotate them.

you cant rotate them(front to back OR front pass to front driver) because they are not nylon tires & b/c of the tires being different widths. This is also the reason(b/c they are NOT nylon tires) why you shouldnt rotate the non sport G35 tires from Front Driver to Rear Passenger either. You can ONLY rotate the tires on a non sport G35 from Front driver to REAR driver, thats it.
