SilverG, since you asked I listened for road noise, and you're right - it is the loudest noise at less-than-highway speeds. The Eagles aren't particularly noisy.

I'm confused on why you'd say the Asymmetrics are better in most ways than GSD3s, but aren't going to buy them? I was set on the GSD3s, then decided it made sense to buy the new, and apparently better, technology...?

Anyway, if it helps - I bought from Discount Tire, and since I've bought there before talked the manager into a $100 discount, plus the Goodyear rebate they were running. I've found that those guys are usually willing to deal, at least a bit.

Good luck!
Good to know they'll make deals on the tires.....even online the tires are freakin expensive. I can't imagine buying them at a Goodyear store. Yikes.

I haven't made my mind up on which one's I'll go with. I was just pointing out the GSD3's are cheaper and better looking. It always seems like with anything, you can get something slightly better, for a little more money. At some point in time you have to decide how much you're willing to spend.

Thanks for the info and pics, it definitely helps.

One more question. Have you noticed any performance/fuel economy difference with the larger tires?

Thanks for this thread. The F1 Asymmetrics seem like a good choice for better treadlife and at least as good performance as the potenze re050as. Hell, given that they beat out the pole positions in tirerack's reviews, this has gotta be a damn good tire. 235/255 sizes seem more fitting to the 7.5/8.5 18" rims. Tirerack has 7.5 and 8.5 listed as the ideal rim sizes for the 235 fronts and 255 rears.

I think I found my replacement tires when i get to that point which will be either end of this summer or mid next summer.

I searched on tirerack.com for (2) 235/50/18 and (2) 255/45/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season. The total comes out to be $746 before tax and shipping. Mean while, I can get the similar set of tires on Ebay for $600 shipped.

So, G35Now! can you tell me how much you spent for those tires?

More than that - IIRC I got everything from Discount Tire for something like $930 (with tax, installed etc.)

I like them. I prefer a more square look over the stretched look, actually, I don't like the stretched look at all.

Agreed. I had never actually seen a 6MT up close until last weekend, and the stock rears seemed to be stretch quite a bit, not really matching up, in terms of profile, to the front. Wasn't really diggin' it.

i think the 225's on the front of our cars were pretty square with the wheel to start off with, but you 255 rears looks like it perfectly fit the rears.... If i decide to change my tires on my OEM wheels, i'd probably go 225/255

Then Ebay probably the best deal around. I can pay $80 for a shop to install 4 new tires and the grand total is about $700. :-)

You're right - the problem is that the 225/50/18 size really limits your choice of tire. There are way more choices at 235/50/18, and you can't really tell the difference.
