Question regarding to tires

I have new tires but I been reading that OEM tires are bad... and I see Michelin - Pilot Alpin PA3 for sale at costco... is it worth it to change? and as for the performance, is OEM tires good (I know 0% about the car)...

fyi, I was drifting w/ my car and felt that my tires are sliding alot... (or I was speeding too much ).

Thanks!

The Bridgestone Potenza Re050A tires that come on our Gs are a pretty good tire, they've got excellent grip and stiff sidewalls for high speed cornering stabilty. They have an abismal 140 treadwear rating though. I just changed mine at 22,000 miles, they had maybe another 3,000 left, but they were getting pretty scary on wet roads
They are what they are, an ultra high performance summer tire, so you're going to have to give up tread life usually w/ these type tires.

^^^ +1 I had Potenza's on my last car, and what they give you in grip they take away in treadwear. The day I drove the G off the lot, a small portion of my paycheck began being set away for the new tires I'll need by next summer, haha

(They paying my insurance... i'm only paying the car + they would not know diff between 18 vs 17 inch lol )... do you think I should go to the dealership and get 18' inch w/ potenza? and... if any of you done this, how much does it cost?

I think they are great tires, but it just sucks it costs so much to own b/c they wear out in 1-1.5 years.... The tires aren't cheap either, I think last i checked it was 900+ bucks for tires M+B.

The 18" sport wheel option is only $400 more than the 17" setup, the 18" wheels are a very good looking rim IMO and the 18" size fits the G perfectly.
The G35x do indeed come w/ Goodyears, whether that's a bad thing I'm not sure
The Potenzas are about $280-$300 per tire. Another thing to consider is the 18" setup is staggered so you'll need to find compatible tire sizes when it comes time to replace them. I went w/ 235/50/18s all around when I just replaced them, here's a thread about just that issue.

you said you're the one paying for the car so take it back to the dealership and have them work in the $400 sport wheel option into the deal...it won't jack up the price that much more, plus you get the bridgestone ONLY on the sport rims

dumb on me saying sliding too much (I felt that my front wheel was sliding way too much even tho it was awd.... btw i know 0% about drifting as well ) so... you think i can make a deal w/ a dealer? already have 2500 on the tires...

No you wont be able to switch out your rims and tires for 18"ers for $400 bucks at the dealer. Reason # 1 the car has to come from the factory with that option the rims and tires are way more expensive if the dealer orders them separately. Reason 2 you have a X and you cant put the 18" stock staggered set up on your car. Ok 3 reasons, sounds like your young with great parents enjoy the car and dont slide so much.....

Good luck

You can get aftermarket rims which look better anyways (in my opinion).

Another option is to by a used set of G35XS rims. They are 18 but only 7.5" wide.

I went the aftermarket route and bought used 18 x 8.5" rims. I use my stock 17s for my winter set-up
