Rear Brakes
Rear Brakes
So I went to Cerritos Infiniti to take my car in for my sunroof motor that broke and I asked them to take a look at my brakes also because theyve been squeaking alot lately. They ended up telling me I needed new rear brakes for my car which would cost $330. I asked them how could a car with only 18000 miles need new rear brakes and she ended up telling me that " the rear brakes always go out first. I decided not to get it done but i feel a little cheated that with a car under warranty i couldnt get new brakes for a car with such low miles.
That's complete crap!! Front brakes are used for about 3/4 of your braking power. You should easily get 2x to 3x as much life out of rears as you would on your front brakes. I have gotten 80,000 miles out of rear disc brakes before. The only way they would wear quicker is if you stopped using your e-brake....all the time.
^ actually on THESE cars the rears do seem to go out first, me and many others including G35Now have checked our brakes and our fronts had substantially more pad left than the rears.(i'd say it was 70% Front and 30 Rear) with that said i think its due to the EBD and all that other stuff they do to the brakes to reduce nose dive and increase solid non-fading stops.
On my test drive, the salesman told me what to do and I did it. My drive was right after a nasty ice storm and we were in a parking lot covered in an inch of ice checking out the traction control. From there, we ended up on a back road and he asked for me to get the car up to 75 and he asked for me to slam on my brakes at the stop sign that was quickly coming up.
I stood on that brake pedal and I was amazed at the car's reaction. There was hardly any nose dive... all done by the back brakes, I assume
