On both, you will certainly need spacers to clear the spokes. 10mm at least for the 8.5's, more for the 7.5's. *However*, notice the first photo above. The caliper head is barely touching the inner barrel. If you have wheel weights in the same area, the caliper will scrape those off.

I'd like to say place the weights further in the rim, but i have a feeling the placement would also affect the balance. I'm not really sure. :(

the only thing that has an affect on that is the distance of the weights from the center of rotation. moving the weights along the rotational access won't have an affect.
