So, my dealer has informed that my rear pads are practically gone. I've replaced the pads on my previous G (04' coupe), so I have no problems doing it myself again.

Can someone just tell me what size I need for the rears, recommended ceramic brand (forgot which one I used on the coupe), and where to buy it?

You can sort through these quick for ceramics, I wouldnt be surprised if there was some review info at TR for brakes, or google around.

Try one of the vendors in our marketplace. R &D factory gave me a great deal on Project MUs NS for my brembos... They were about 100 shipped to my door. I got it in about 3 days. I would think your break pads would be chheaper especailly since you would only be getting rears.


Side note: I wouldn't necesasarily believe the dealer when they say your break pads are gone... check em out yourself or have a shop take a look see. Dealer can just be trying to make an extra dollar.

I'm a fan of the OEM pads; they've never faded on me, even on the track, they wear well, and don't dust much.

i've noticed big brake fade with OEMs - but the biggest problem with them is that they are pretty thin pads to begin with meaning you have to change them more often.

I paid 140 for front EBC Yellowstuffs (which still haven't come in yet) but if they last twice as long as the OEMs which is entirely possible, then they're more than worth the investment

Wow, really? The track I was on had some nasty braking areas, plus a straight where you hit 100 plus then straight into a hairpin, and the brakes never twitched. AND I got 25k miles out of pads (which is really, really good for me )

How much should the brake pads cost to be replaced? I had to have mine replaced at 19k miles. They showed me the old ones, and they did look very worn. However they charged me 3 hours labor - ie. $330 to replace them not including the parts. I feel like I've been robbed, but am not sure how long it should take. I just remember changing the pads on my Golf I/Rabbit years back, and can't remember it being that complicated....

you got robbed. ntb only wants 50 to replace front pads and turn the rotors. This place pro-am only wants 37 to change the front pads

Thanks. I'll take it up with the stealership on Monday when I'm in there again for the shuddering coming from the front brakes. Bastards. It didn't feel right at the time, but I was in a rush, and just didn't have a chance to look into it while I was there.

So it turns out that they also resurfaced the rear rotors, and that's why it took 3 hours at $110/hour. I guess it's good that they did that, although in future I told them I need to be consulted on anything that costs more than $100 period.

You should be consulted on absolutely everything that they haven't explicitly told you about. If you go in asking them to change the front pads and they go ahead and resurface the rears without telling you, you shouldn't be charged since you never were asked or approved that.

When you first bring the car in you sign off on the work to be done, so unless it's there in the initial write-up I'm pretty sure they are required to contact you about doing anything else.


Still waiting on my new pads..... I'm going to head over to Pro-Am Auto here in Houston to have them done. They said I can hang out in the back while they're changing them and try and learn something ha. And they only asked for <40 bucks.

EDIT: I had to contact the place I ordered by brakes from to get an answer about them, or else I'd still be waiting on a package that's never coming. Yellowstuffs are completely out of stock, so I guess it's OEM again for me... :-/

they're out of stock EVERYWHERE. I ordered them off buybrakes and they came back and said they're out of stock in every warehouse in the states and EBC has no plans to make any more of them so back to stock

update for you sir - did another "enthusiastic" event this weekend, never noticed fade. It was a light "route" on brakes, but still never faded. I've got new OEMs up front with <1000 miles and still running the original rears - so they work very well. It's just that they're so thin to begin with, I've heard aftermarkets can be nearly twice as thick to begin with. But theres SO few options for us Sedan Sport guys
