recurring problems with front brakes on '07 G35x

Hi Everyone:

I love my '07 G35x, and haven't had too many issues, but I have one issue that has recurred so often that it's starting to concern me. When I brake hard from a speed higher than 50mph, there is a shudder/vibration that comes through on the steering wheel. I've taken the car in for this now 3 times. Twice they resurfaced the rotors, and once they replaced the rotors but said my rear brake pads were work (showed me, and they were worn, so I had to pay a fortune to replace them).

Anyway, within 2 to 3 months of them fixing the front rotor issue, it happens again - even after the new rotor. I'm taking it in on Monday, and they have promised to again replace the front rotors under warranty. Is this a common problem with the current G? Anyone else have a lot of front brake issues?

Also, how long should brake pads last? I had to replace my rears at 19k miles. Sounds a little low to me, and while I do occasionally drive agressively, I would say that this would account for no more than 20% of my driving.

Thanks a lot
T1328

The rotors on our cars suck, plain and simple.
I had them turned once and replaced once (under warranty) as the dealer recognizes the fact that the rotors are crapping our prematurely.
I'm not wasting my time with OEM again.
Next brake job, I'll be replacing my rotors with aftermarket.

I've been complaining about vibration and poor/inconsistent braking from my 08 G35x from the week it was delivered.

First, I was promised new rotors.
When I picked up the car, I found that I was NOT given new rotors, but just had the originals cut.

Now, I know the G is NOT a sports car. I have a C6 Corvette for that.
But, the brakes should be designed to perform well and last as a daily driver.
The G brakes are under-engineered and under-perform.

My car has 7k miles and has a brake shudder that is getting worse. It's going in for resurfacing in a couple of weeks. No doubt the brakes will last only a few k after being resurfaced. Anyone have any suggestions for good quality aftermarket rotors for the X. I'm not looking for high performance- just non warping non rusting pieces.

I have an 08 G35x and I have the same problem. When I brake above 55mph I get shaking in my steering wheel and the brakes stop like sh*t but the pads are still thick. I assume it is warped rotors.

I am also interested in what aftermarket rotors are suggested for an 08 G35x. I used Rotorpros slotted and cross drilled rotors on my FX35 and wasn't to happy with them.

How are the Stop Tech rotors?

Try replacing the pads, i had some shuddering issues that went away after the pads were replaced. I didn't touch the rotors.

What is the fix for these problems that can be done BY THE MANUFACTURER UNDER THE WARRANTY ?????

I complained to my dealer from the time my 08 G35x was NEW that that brakes performed poorly and I was feeling a vibration in the steering wheel and pedal.

My brake pads needed to be replaced and the rotors resurfaced at BOTH the front and back at 13k miles.
Now, at 25k, the pads need to be replaced and the rotors resurfaced at BOTH the front and back, AGAIN, after ONLY 12k miles since the last brake job!

I would normally upgrade pads, rotors, and lines and do a brake fluid flush.
But, this is a BRAND NEW CAR !!!! WTF !!!

I don't want to modify my daily driver and it SHOULD be reliably without modifications as it only used for my daily commute.

OEM pads are soft, they deposit more material on the rotors which causes vibrations. I still vote for replacing the pads with aftermarket.

Granted, that didn't really answer your question.

Does this problem occur primarily on the X ?
I don't recall may journey posts about this.

Just wondering, if that's the case;
What is different between the X brakes & Journey?

No worries. I appreciate the sentiment.

If it was a Corvette, I would upgrade pads and rotors.
But, it's an Infiniti sedan that I use to simply commute and it has had this issue since BRAND NEW.

I've seen it across the board, even on MyG37 with the Akebono set-up.

According to the FSM, the brake booster is different on Journey/Sports and the X.

2WD - 255mm diaphragm diameter
AWD - (Primary) 230mm, (Secondary) 205mm

TT C6, is it possible to get your dealership to replace pads *and* rotors? There may be something inherently wrong with the rotors themselves.

I hear you. Every Nissan i've ever owned had brake issues, either pad, rotors or both. In all instances (except the G), it was a matter of switching over to aftermarket pads and that solved the issues. On the G, i replaced it with the same OEM pads and skipped resurfacing the rotors.

I've got the same problem with 13K miles...noticed the shuttering since about 5K miles. I had an '04 maxima with the exact same issue's. The factory breaks are a joke. Just bite the bullet and buy some cross-drilled rotors w/pads.
