Going rate for mount and balance?

I have plenty of shops around here who do that for $20 a tire. In fact I had two new rear tires mounted a couple weeks ago that I bought off tire rack. Came to just over $42 to do them both and that included disposal of the old ones and taxes. (Also I didnt just bring them the wheels they had to lift the car and remove and reinstall them themselves. they do give a few dollars off if you just bring them the wheels and tires off the car) I have 19s so they are lo-profiles. $150 is too much around here anyway. and they arent doing 8 tires. That is BS. I used to do tires and never considered swapping a tire to be two. What kind of mentality is that?

a friend of mine just had tires mounted and balanced for $7.50 a corner at wal-mart on his ws-6 (275/40's I think). He spend a few bucks more a corner and got lifetime rotation balance, and he can rotate in his garage, but for how cheap it was he got it just for the convenience of not having to do it himself. They had the best equipment around too, left no marks. All the others shops I have been around here are hacks and rash wheels and charge up to $20 (which is high). I'll go to wal-mart next if you guys have one around that sell tires I'd check it out and see what you think of the mech's there. Lotsa times it comes down to their know how and if they have the right dismount equipment with plastic fingers. There is a Nissan dealer here that did a pretty good job putting summer tires on my STi 17's and they charged $15 a corner I think.

I pay about $40 each for Roadforce balancing and mounting on my 19" rims, so that's about what your paying. It is cheaper if you don't get rf balancing and if you have smaller rims with wider profile.
I would watch out for Walmart. I did that for a few tires and some could never get balanced or started to leak after a season--more trouble than its worth. Most places that care will prep the rim (unless it is new) and put sealant around the bead.
