Been running the typical 245/40ZR19 fronts and 275/35 rears.... need to buy some new tread and was thinking that I'd like a little wider rear still, so was thinking of going to a 285/35 rear with either the same fronts or maybe some 255/40s....

will the 255/40s fit up front pretty easy? I'm not lowered right now but will be putting on some coilovers soon and plan on keeping them up quite a bit, like 3/4" lower all around.

So:

1) What about the 285/35 for the rear.... I'm 99% sure I'm going this route,

and

2) What about 255/40s up front.

The 255/40 is a closer match (.10" difference) than the 245/40 (.20" difference).

+1 on the 285's... but try 275's up front, they will fit.. whats your rim size?

What's the width of your rims. But 285/35 rears would look good. And if you have 9.5 fronts 255/40s will work. But it will look bit fat.

wouldn't the OD increase when going from 275/35 to 285/35? Isn't 285/30 a better choice? (I'm asking cause I might do the same with my next tire change)

the OD will change a little but the key is keeping the difference between to front and rear within a certain range. the difference between the 245/40s and 275/35s is like .10... 275s being smaller. the difference between 245s and the 285s is like .10, with the 285s being bigger. so you do gain a little OD but it keeps it within range still. IIRC, the 285/30s are smaller than the 275/35s therefore making the difference even greater. the 255/40 is even closer to a perfect match with the 285/35s.

ive decided on (and ordered) some Hankook Ventus V12 tires with a 285/35 in the rear. havent ordered the fronts yet. 275s up front would be extreme.... but nice though. i can feelthe fronts pushing still, even with 245s... wider up front would be better still.

wheel sizes are either 8.5/9.5 or 9/10, cant remember now.

go 255/35 or 245/35 up front. 285/35 rear will be fine.

from mfg site:

285/35 = 26.9"

275/35 = 26.8"

245/40 = 26.7"

255/40 = 27.1"

255/35 = 26"

245/35 = 25.8"

so, based on that, I'd say anything in the 35 range isnt ideal up front. stock tires are right at 27". im thinking the 255/40 is an ideal front tire as long as there are no issues with turning / rubbing.

According to that 1010 calculator (I used that when ordering my tires too), assuming S 18" rim/tire:

Stock rim=26.85"
245/40=26.71"=0.53% difference
255/40=27.03"=0.67% difference
275/35=26.57"=1.05% difference (not even an option imo)

Based on that, the 245 is the more ideal tire size.

the wheels in question here ar 19", but i agree that the 245s are the right tires to match up on the front, at least on paper. but in aggressive driving, the 245s seem to push a little more than id like. which makes me want a little wider tire which brings really the only alternative of 255/40/19s...

i just dont want rubbing, so i hope the 255s will give me what im looking for.
