Oh damn, if only you hadn't waited nearly 5 years to let him know this.

Well, since we are bumping old thread ... LOL

I have tracked the '08 Sports brake a few times a year and found it handles quite well in even the hot socal / desert weather.

I have DOT 4 high temp brake fluid and Hawk HPS pads. Seems like the limit is more of the front tires rather than the brake.

I have been tempted to upgrade to Akebono front, but the cost doesn't seems to justify the upgrade. When its time for my next brake fluid change, I may just upgrade to SS brake line and call it a day.

Also I would try to what's the next up for HPS pads without (or with less) the noise and dust than HP+?

Maybe 2 piece rotor to shave off a few pounds when the rotor is due for replacement.

I bet if I put wider tires up front, that would put more stress into the front brakes. I am still thinking if I should do that.

That's only part of it though. In addition to the monetary cost, there is a fairly huge unsprung weight penalty, both static and rotational, and that's even without the larger/heavier wheels and tires typically required to clear the Akebonos piling it on even further. Trying to minimize it by using lighter 2-piece rotors and lightweight wheels makes the costs just go through the roof.

Yes I have upgraded to the Akebonos and it is not worth the money unless you track it often. City braking is unchanged.rotors are very heavy 2 piece is the way to go.

I have the Akebono on front and back. I agree that city breaking doesn't really change much.. If you disable VDC you might accidentally lock them up.. I actually locked mine up through a corner from my foot slipping after a downshift.. They do come in handy for me daily.. It almost seems to be every day that I will be cruising around 70-80mph and either some jackass comes from one of the slow lanes going 45mph and just doesn't even care to accelerate or traffic will be moving smoothly at a comfortable 65-70mph and instantly a wall of red lights followed by all five lanes going a steady 5mph. I have also gotten the occasional text and drive kinda guy that was in a Honda Accord and randomly slams his brakes after glancing up from his phone. That aspect makes these larger brakes a big plus for stopping when dumb people try to drive.

As for the SS lines and two peice rotors.. Well that will be my next brake upgrade.. I don't care about going really fast with this car.. I would rather have a car that is just fun to drive and can handle everything the motor can through at it.. Better to be underpowered and have no probs through the turns than to be over powered and have to tip toe through each and every corner.

Does anyone know if these brakes eat through rear brake pads faster than normal? I noticed my rear pads need to be changed, but my front pads look practically new. I have not really looked into this much more and my fluid is green..
