Does anyone have the same size tire on staggered Sport 18's?
 

I really want to get Continental's DWS tires but they don't have our factory front size.

My options are:

225/45R18 Front & 255/40R18 Rear

or

245/45R18 on all 4.

My first choice would be staggered sizes but they are backordered everywhere I've checked and I don't know how long it'll be before they are in.

My supplier is telling they have in stock and I should just go with 245/45's everywhere but with an inch difference in wheel widths, I would think the front would look pretty bulged as well as handle differently as a result of increased front tire weight...

Has anyone else run all 4 corners the same size? Do you have any pictures or any feedback on pro's or cons?

You can do 235/50 on the front and it would still be within the ideal margin of error.

Otherwise, i don't think there's anything wrong with running same size tires on all four corners, on staggered rims. If anything, it will just look fatter up-front and you may get a bit more flex in tight corners (up the air pressure to counter it).

edit: you can pair it up with 255/45 in the rears. Conti DWS comes in both of these sizes.

235/50 are W rated and 255/45 are Y rated. I'm not entirely sure why you're not supposed to run different speed ratings but Tire-rack won't list those two as compatible with each other.

And it looks like the 245's on the front don't have that much more bulge than the 225/50's.

Do you still have the 245/45's on all 4? I bit the bullet and ordered them. Does the front bulge look any different on that tire than the snow tires you had in that picture?

no, i did 235 in the front and 255 in the rear

my snows are 245 all around and they run fine, no issues at all and they don't look bad at all

It's not too late so I just cancelled.

I'm going to go with 235/45/18 and 255/40/18. I'll pay a bit more and it reduces the overall rolling diameter by about .6-.7 inches but I think I'll be happier knowing I've properly staggered my tires as well as keeping consistent load and speed ratings from front to rear.

you will like them, i have about 20k on them and the rears have about 60% left.
they are ok in the snow, good enuf to get around in the city, you would really want snow tho

I had blizzaks last winter, mounted on FX35 wheels that got me around great in the snow....but we only had like two snow falls here in KC that I needed them for.

Since I work from home, I end up only going out when necessary...and the snow tires were more for my enjoyment than a necessity. I wanted to be able to go snow drifting. :)

I just sold them for 800 so these DWS's are a wash. No money out of pocket which is cool.

These days it's all about practicality. Getting older sucks. The wife wants us to spend money on the house, and paying off debt, so we can have a baby soon. :eek3:

dude im in the same boat, thats y i got all seasons. i just bought a house, and im getting married next year. when the snows are burnt out im not getting new ones. i too can work from home, which is awesome.

For those who are looking at the same tires/sizes, I'll be doing comparisons at multiples angles and distances for you to get a very good feel for what they will look like compared to the stock sizes on sport wheels.

Until I get the new tires, hopefully on Tuesday. I'll leave with you a picture of the stock tires.

With this setup the front tires would be a lot smaller than the rears, about 3/4". (With stock tire sizes the front tires are actually a tiny bit taller than the rear tires.) I'm not sure if this would be enough to cause the traction control system problems or not. I would think it would look funny unless you had coilovers to adjust the fender gap.

Going with 235/50/18 and 255/45/18 would probably be better if you are looking for a little wider tire as the difference front to rear is closer to stock.
