TPMS question
TPMS question
I cannot find the answer to the following question:
I know TMPS sensors are battery operated. Does the battery begin operating when mounted and synced to the car? Or does it begin draining soon after being manufactured? My concern is if it's constantly being drained when new on a storage shelf, how do you know the new TMPS sensors you're buying having been drainning for years on a store shelf?

It depends. Some manufacturers have units set-up that way, thus the big gap in advertising material (i.e. "5-7 years battery life.)
Supposedly, and IIRC, some Orange TPMS have a mechanism that turns on after it first feels pressure and stays on from that point forward.
There are also advancements made to where the sensors themselves don't need power.

thanks Soundmike. Are there any available for our cars that don't need power?
