Tire Wear Questions

I just purchased my first G35 and have read that excessive tire wear is not uncommon. The car came with new Michelin's and after just two weeks I am seeing abnormal wear on the inside of the tread and beginning to hear tire noise. Some of the postings leave me wondering if the G35 can ever be aligned correctly without an aftermarket kit. If I take the car in for an alignment can the G35 be set to correct the tire wear? Can it be done at the local tire shop or does it need to go to an Infiniti or Nissan dealer?

BTW - I do not drive hard, no drifting, rarely over the speed limit. The car is completely stock, no lowering involved.

First of all, what G35 do you have? This is the 2nd generation sedan section that you're posting in, so if you have a coupe or a pre-07 sedan (V35), then you'd be talking about an entirely different car here. Assuming you do have a 2nd gen (V36) sedan, then I'd have to say there is no reason you car shouldn't be able to hold an alignment that will not wear out tires prematurely**. If I were you, I'd just take it into a reputable tire shop and have them do an alignment on it. They should also be able to evaluate whether or not there's any obvious damage to the suspension which may be contributing to your symptoms as well.

** Be aware that 'prematurely' is somewhat a relative term, especially if you have the staggered wheels configuration which doesn't allow for tire rotations. In that case, it is normal to expect reduced tire treadlife.

OH, and welcome to G35 Driver

ScreaminMeemer, "Welcome to Driver"! Going to the dealership for alignment is like going to the Vet for a bad tooth! Why would you want to? Find an independent brake alignment shop in your area, they do alignment all day long and can do the job right! I have 3 shops in my area that I trust, with the knowledge to get the job done. While you're at the alignment shop have them check the rest of your suspension that might cause excessive tire wear, it's not always alignment and could be several other issues.
