Hi guys, so here in canada went through rough winter and my car 2007 Infiniti G35X has a whole bunch of problems.
-first i was informed that ball joint needed change. driver side got the upper control arm/ball joint changed and passenger side got both upper and lower control arm/balljoint changed.
-afterwards i was told that my shock absorbers are finished, front passenger one is leaking.
is that the reason why my steering always tilts right? mechanic told me its not worth doing an alignment, fix the shock absorbers first and then get new summer tires also and then do the alignment ...
-im really tired of repairing this car, just want it to function properly so i can get some peace.
-did anyone else have the steering wheel tilt on the right because their shock absorber was leaking?

The job of the shock absorber is to absorb shocks not hold the weight of the car, that is the job of the spring.

So no, the shock absorber leaking will not cause the steering wheel to tilt.

I recommend changing the shock (as it needs changing anyway) and getting an alignment. Do whichever is convenient first but the alignment will help show if any other components need changing.

and then get new summer tires....... no need unless your current ones are low/close to the wear bars

If your **** tracks wrong it isn't the shocks, but if the shock leaks it's time to replace those as a pair (fronts, or rears).

You likely have other suspension issues.

 

If your shocks are leaking and the ride feels like your floating down the road replace all the shocks with KYBs! They'll last as long as you own this car and give you a factory ride! Steering wheel, needs to be corrected with an alignment which I recommend after installing new shocks. Doesn't sound like your alignment is correct from what you describe anyway!

I don't think you would need an alignment if it was correct to begin with. But, if you're steering wheel is off that means you're alignment is probably jacked up. I'd take a look at your inner/outer tie rods also.

I'd definitely repair the fronts in pairs. You don't want a brand new one on one side and worn model on the other. If the rears aren't leaking and seem sound I'd leave them. But, I think they are under 100 bucks a piece at Rock Auto.

Yes, leave the springs they are over the shocks compressed. If they are broke or you want to lower the car then you change them.
