G37 Engine Swap?

I got a line on a full-up G37 motor for $2500 and was wondering if anyone has ever attempted anything like this. As far as I know, the blocks are the same with the only difference being VVEL on the 3.7.

What else is required besides harness and ECU?

with the technology in todays cars, i forsee an engine swap being very difficult.

It would be easier to bore/stroke your current motor.

Can you get the ECU/harness/etc with it?

If so it might be worth the try but overall I would just turbo your existing motor for more power and a lot less headache.

Engine swaps are a big project, unlike a turbo kit, it can't be un-bolted. Also everything that does not swap would need to be custom made. IMO its not worth it.

i'm thinking that everything should mount right up, so no need for fab/weld or anything of that sort, i'm just guessing though...
it's more like what everyone else says, the wiring/harness will eat up alot of time, especially luxury cars, man...

but it's a good excuse to go standalone, because whatever mods you make in the future, standalone is a plus

i wonder if it's easy just to incorporate the VVEL piece to our 3.5?

I thought about that too. I'm guessing the wiring harness and ECU would need to be swapped at a minimum. And even after the ECU swap, I bet it would need a new program for the smaller displacement motor.

As I look at the used car values... it might actually be cheaper to sell your car and move up to an '09 G37 than it would be to complete this swap w/ OEM parts and reliability.

I like the TT idea better though

yeah i agree, don't think it's worth it to do that type of swap... now if you can get a hold of skyline vr38tt for cheap... or see if anything from that is swappable to our car...

Twin turbo plans here too - gonna do the Greddy when it hits the street for the HR. They have 2 setups:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/02/s...win-turbo-kit/

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthre...311700&page=18

90hp without intercooler
150hp with intercooler

Probably would go without the intercooler setup for 2 reasons:

1) Want to keep the stock look and I don't think the intercooler will fit behind the stock g35s bumper, despite some custom fab

2) 90hp comes with just 5.5 pounds of boost, so the stock internals will probably be okay. 150 horse would likely need some more serious work

Let me know guys and gals what y'all think, maybe this is a bad line of reasoning?

could you run meth injection to up the horsepower? Running a conservative 90hp or less tune daily and then a 100+ whp meth tune would be fun.
