Silly question about 6MT's

And please don't respond "Why?" or any derivation of that.

Anyways, is it possible (and/or how difficult would it be) to get the screen between the gauges to display what gear you're in on a 6MT? as it does with the automatic in DS/S (or whatever the tiptronic mode is called)

Seems to me it could be don but it would be a lot of work. You would need to have a gated plate under the shifter with a bunch of micro switches. Then zoomed LEDs in the dash. A LOT OF WORK.

That's strange I thought it displayed what gear you in on a 6MT. It does it on a AT. I think you can get an aftermarket display thingy to do that

^+1 to what texas said, it would be tedious but a very cool mod, money allowing it would look neat... you planning on doing it?

Anything could be done, just depends on how much you wanna spend.

I would assume the screen is already configured that way as it works in the Automatic G. I'm assuming "all" I would need is the transmitter portion, i.e. the part that hooks to the stick/transmission itself.

It's going to take a LOT more than that.
Don't forget that the screen is controlled by the CPU.

So, my guess is that nobody has done this, right?

And yeah, I'd imagine that its controlled by the CPU, but I was curious if it's similar to the paddle shifter thing. Where the car is wired, programmed, and ready to go, it's just missing one or two pieces...or they just never came up with a piece to determine gears from the stick, but they did from the auto.

^ nice, and you actually brought about a good idea, i wont be suprised to see something like this in the near future considering the new Z has the syncro rev match MT where they would already have a signal going for which gear the car is in to the computer.... lets wait and watch...

^ good point.
An OE shift gate with micro switches already exists.
