Still having trouble with CEL and Stillen HFC's

I need some technical advice. Let me start from the beginning. I purchased a set of Stillen HFC's, installed them, and no CEL for 4 months. I called Stillen about the CEL and they sent me the extenders which was supposed to correct the CEL. I installed the extenders, cleared the CEL by disconnecting the battery and 4 months later the CEL returned. I decided to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and clear the code until I could try Suby's suggestion of using the 2 non-fouler mod. Unfortunately I only made it 50 miles before the CEL came back on, so I completed the 2 non-fouler mod and disconnected the battery to re-set the CEL light. Again, 50 miles later the CEL returned. I went to the dealership and explained the situation. Infiniti looked at the code and said the front O2's were tripping the CEL due to too much air. The tech explained that maybe the front's were working overtime to compensate for the rears but he still re-set the CEL to see if the new mod would fix the CEL as it has done for so many people. Well, 50 miles later the CEL came back on.

Anyone have any idea why I'm now getting the CEL every 50 miles? Very frustrating because I don't want to remove my HFC's if possible.

Well I can tell you that the tech is wrong. The fronts are not going to work harder. All the sensors are doing is measuring air. I would try figureing out you af ratio.

take it to a tuner too forever erase the code.

What exactly do you mean by that?

LightsOut Mar 16, 2010 02:43 PM

a tuner maybe can erase the code forever, unless brought back to stock.

I would check to make sure. nothing was wrong first

my only answer would be that your sensor(s) went bad. with all the taking in and out from the cats that many times may have disrupted something in there. they are very sensitive once removed. i dont know if there are ways to check for bad o2 sensors, because ours are expensive.

also here is another option. i know people who used this is positive results.

hope that helps.

what is your driving situation? mostly highway? mostly city? do you drive above 65 for 10mins or longer?

have you tried the steel wool method? it worked for me for a good amount of time.

.

I asked the tech about bad O2 sensors and he said the computer he connected to the car will tell you if a sensor goes bad, and it will tell you exactly which one. So, it appears that all sensors are good.

I drive mostly suburban roads. I rarely reach speeds of 60...most 35-55 mph driving. I'm not familiar with the steel wool method...I've heard it mentioned previously but paid no attention.

here is some info on the steel wool.
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...l-problem.html

given that i have Berks HFC, i believe this should work anyways.
i found some at home depot, which i believe is the same steel wool. there were different grades and i chose the #00. it looks the same as the stuff i got from Berks. Im going to ask them if its the same and probably get some from HD.

OK, just to clarify that I'm reading this correctly...I should keep the 2 part anti-fouler and install a small piece (square inch or so) of steel wool on the tip of the sensor inside of the anti-fouler. Does that sound right?
