need a solution to this CEL problem.

so i have a CEL. Im pretty sure its coming from my Berks HFC. I had it on for little over a year, and then it suddenly came on couple months back. here is my theory on the problem.

I took it to autozone, got codes P0420 and P0430. these codes mean the rear oxygen sensors( the one on the HFC) are reading the exhaust air similiar to the air before the HFC(the ones on the headers i think). Converters are suppose to "clean the air" and provide different wave lengths between the two O2 sensors. i checked the headers, intakes, exhaust, and found no leaks or anything abnormal. what can i do to get rid of the light?

what im thinking of doing:
either buying new oxygen sensors for the rear or do a ecu tune. will either of these work to get rid of the CEL.
which, specifically, ecu tune would help the most----the bully dog, technosquare reflash, cobb, etc. thanks

get spark plug extenders they are in the help section in autozone you will need 2 per cat. you screw your o2 into the extender and problem solved.

why 2 extenders per cat? is it just to stick it out more.

hey thanks for the advice, but it didnt work. i bought the spark plug extenders, but when tried to install them, the o2 sensor couldnt fit into the extender, the senser was too big.

does anyone know where i can get 02 sensors for relatively cheap. the cheapest i found was $144. thanks

that extender seems like a really good idea.

but, your o2 sensors are probably good. the codes are telling you that your catalyst efficiency is out of range. especially since both codes are present, what are the odds that both of your barely two year old sensors suddenly crapped out on you?

do you still have your old cats? bolt em back in, clear the codes, and drive. if its worth it to you, put the Berks back in.

i think your right about the catalyst efficiency. what could i do to adjust the air flow? i do still have my old cats, but i figure since other people are not having the same problem, there should be a solution.

I've just installed my Berks HFC a week ago, and so far no engine warning light, I'm really surprised that you've had it for a whole year and only now the light comes on. Makes me worried about what mine could do

the solution to the Berk's is SS wool. call Berk and ask them to send you stainless steel wool. they'll happily send it to you, and you have to get under your car and wrap your sensor with it. screw them back in, clear the codes, and it shouldn't come back again.. i had this problem, and ever since i did this, the code hasn't come back.. others on my350z.com have had similar success with the SS wool, i don't think the light has come back for anyone that has used it..

can u remember how much wool did you use. i already had wool covering the sensor, and the light came back on. did i not use enough, i used about a sqaure inch of wool. maybe ill try it again with more wool

a square inch should do it, i MIGHT have used a little more but i'm not sure exactly how much i used. but i stuffed the hole,i didnt wrap the sensor, so basically the wool is kind of more like blocking the sensor than surrounding it. the sensor is facing a wall of SS wool between it and the actual airflow of the HFC..

On our cars you need to use 2 non foulers for each O2 sensor.

Drill out the first so the O2 sensor can pass through and fit

can you post a pic of these because I can't view them on the other forum? and don't the Berks get shipped with non-foulers?
