Custom exhaust on my G35x

When I first bought my 08 G35xS sedan, I installed Berk HFCs. Of course I got the nasty rattling rasp that HFCs produce on all HR motors. My next step was to try a set of Magnaflow 12225 mufflers welded in place of the OEM mufflers. I got a little more sound but the rasp was no different. I decided that I wanted a very mellow full catback exhaust. I also did not want to spend $1000+. What few AWD exhaust options out there were neither quiet nor cheap. So a buddy and I built our own.

The parts:
2 x Magnaflow 12225 mufflers
2 x Magnaflow 10415 resonators
1 x Magnaflow 11385 X-pipe muffler
2 x Vibrant 1471S 2-bolt flanges
16 ft 2.25" aluminized tubing
6 exhaust hangers
high temp black BBQ paint

After a lot of work and test fitting, the end result is awesome. The sound is clearly aftermarket but very mellow. A lot quieter than the Fast Intentions exhaust on my wife's 04 G35 coupe. The system eliminated 100% of the HFC rasp as well. I can't say for sure if there are significant power gains but my main goal was sound. There is mild drone around 2500 rpm (65 mph). I wish there was no drone but it is tough to increase the sound level on the VQ motors without some drone. I have attached a cell phone pice of the complete system. It isn't pretty but it doesn't need to be since it is under the car. I also learned MIG welding along the way. My only criticisms: we had no access to a mandrel bender so my tubes are crush bent but they still flow more than OE. Also, 304 stainless pipes are 5x the price of aluminized steel. I paid $60 shipped for the 16 ft of aluminized tubing. Stainless would have been over $300. My cheapo solution for rust was black BBQ paint. I am quite happy with the end result.

I will post clips when I get a chance. I would have to say that the sound is very stock coupe like. Very mild drone around 2500 rpm point (about 55 mph).

Anyone ever try this on a 07-08 G35s sedan for more coupe/FX35 like sound:

Remove the front resonators and just place a straight thru X-pipe there? Not even bother with the magnaflow muffler x-pipe design (11385), just weld in an x-pipe...

Would this give a little more sound/power for minimal $$?

The muffler X-pipe is tone down the sound.

I understand this...
My questions is: IF I were to only make ONE minor change, remove the front resonators and replace with a X-pipe in place of it...leaving the rest of the exhaust AS IS (OEM) - would that give me a little more sound/power with little expense? OR would it be raspy and sound like crap and drone on the hwy?

My local custom exhaust guy says that should be all that needs to be done to get it to sound like a coupe...is he somewhat correct?

I don't want to spend a ton, just want a little more tone/depth/growl like the coupe and FX.

If replacing the resonator with the magnaflow x-pipe muffler...and removing or leaving the rear mufflers would result in better sound (and performance if any change) in your opinion let me know before I start cutting next wk and fk my new car all up...

Replace the resonators with straight pipe. That would be a simple and cheap way to increase sound. It will probably be raspy though.

Ok I guess that is the logical first thing to try...was going to cut the Y and make a custom X and see...if that is no good...maybe change the stock back mufflers to magnaflow to try and smooth the roughness out? Or put magnaflow xflow like you have in place in hopes of just adding some smooth deep volume and better flow...

Not sure what would be best...trucks are so much easier...flowmaster super 40 split to duals keeps enough back pressure so plenty of low end torque but free flowing enough to make more high end hp and better gas mileage and sounds GREAT and DEEP...easy...
This is harder since I don't want to screw up a luxury sedan that I use for work with raspy crap sound...

In your opinion...if I JUST pull those front resonators off and put the magnaflow X pipe in muffler in...what would that do? ANY louder? ANY better flow? I would think by now since this is an 07 someone on here would have nailed this down...LOL

I ordered all the same parts as you minus the extra two resonators.. and im going to have them welded into my stock exhaust.. do you think that setup will be to raspy? I love the sound of yours but want it a bit louder.. that's why i didn't get the resonators. If you think it will sounds gross without them I will get them..

My setup with the stock cats is very tame. Very mellow. It is significantly louder with HFC. If you are running stack cats, I think you will be fine w/o the resonators.

Is your clip with HFC? I plan to get them soon so I guess its worth it to get the resonators now.. is the setup without them and without HFC extremely mellow? not louder than stock?
