Hard downshift into 1st, no rev matching - solved

A couple of months ago I took my car to the dealer, because the shift down to 1st had become really harsh - even letting the G shift down itself at a crawl, there would be a thud as it shifted. It seemed to be a lack of rev matching during the shift, which I knew it used to do.

Dealer couldn't find anything, and said "they all do it" - which, from reading on the forum, I knew was at least partially true. Oh well, wasn't a huge deal, just annoying.

About a month later, the battery died, and just for convenience I put in one of the higher power Diehard batteries. And whaddya know - shift problem has completely vanished, the G rev matches like before.

So...I really have no explanation for this, and it could be a fluke? But, might be worth a try if you're experiencing this issue.

I had that issue and tried disconnecting the battery for an hour and connected back and it was worse than before...Took to dealer and they could not find any issues and they tested all shiftpoints and looked good they said..
After letting the car do its own shifts for couple weeks, tested downshifting and its normal..
So yea i do not know why it happens..

Steve, funny you mention this. Prior to replacing the battery a few months back i, too, felt that the shifts were getting harsher. Plopped the new battery in and voila, back to nice crisp shifts.

The G was also doing other weird electronic stuff prior right up to the point that the battery failed, all solved by the time i got the new battery in.

i'd vote it was a grounding issue more then battery itself.

As noted I don't really know, but doubt it was a ground issue. a) it didn't occur from the start, it began after a few years and b) I've tried a grounding kit previously and experienced zero change in the G.

Maybe it's a computer glitch? Sounds like it goes away after a computer reset. Dead batt and disconnected battery? Car kinda learns your driving pattern right? No idea.
