Question about changing transmission fluid

First how much does infiniti charge to change ATF? I ask because i was going to do it myself, but doing a simple drain i know i will maybe only be able to change half of it. ATF fluid is what $10 a quart? So if i am already out 70 bucks for fluid and my time. I wouldn't mind to have Infiniti do it but i am not sure how much they are going to charge.

I just checked the fluid and its brown but still has a redish tint to it so i figure i would rather change it now as it can only help

Our local dealership charges approx. $200 for a flush. DIY shouldn't be too bad, but the FSM does mention using Consult when doing the service.

i've heard $129, 159 and $199 for ATF flushes. I guess all pending on dealership. Maybe go to nissan for a cheaper cost.

I am going to give some dealers a call around me and get some prices. $129 i will do. More than $150 i am going to just do it on my own. Even though i will probably have to do 3 separate flushes to get it all.

Infiniti doesn't recommend a flush. So is that what they do? Or do they just get a full drain without a flush?

I have a local mechanic that will change my transmission for cheap if i get him the fluid, but he doesn't do flushes

each shop is diffrent. They normally do what makes the most money for them. They really dont care about what infiniti says.

if your car uses matic-J for the trans let me know. I have some left over i might be able to sell to you.

I normally do a drain n fill every 20-35k. Its exactly the same as an oil change, just fluids are red-ish.

If you are going to do it by yourself, the amount of fluid you drain will vary. Some people get up to 5 qts some get 4, I only got 3 out. I still have 2 qts sitting in my room. If you want them, I can sell them to you for cheap.

5 would be good to have. I've drained and filled twice and both times it was 4.5-4.75 qts. I normally drain while the fluid is still hot/warm so it drains easier, essentially so more can come out. I'm at 67k and already did it twice. I'm about to do another drain and fill on my next oil change.

Remember Matic S is the replacement for Matic J and Matic S is suppose to be a little better.

If anyone here plans to DIY tranny fluid drain-n-fill, please post steps (if possible with pics). If it is as easy as an oil change I see no reason to pay 5-10x the amount to the dealer/mechanic.

hmm, The 5at, if its the same from first gen, do not have a filter. So I wonder what they did. 179 for a drain or for a flush?
