Triptronic Issue?
Hey guys
So I was driving the car in manual mode today and it automatically went into D mode. I moved the shifter back over to D and then back over to DS but nothing happened... Turned the car off and on, DS started working again however it didn't last long and went back to D. Has anyone had this problem? I was over on myg37 and found a couple ppl with the same issue and read it may be a sensor however it was never confirmed. Would something like this be covered under the power train warranty? 2008 G35 sedan with 22000miles. Thank you |
many posts on this if you search here. it was found out to be a bad shifter switch/sensor under the shifter trim which was not covered under power train warranty but under the bumper to bumper 3year warranty. basically ppl ended up swapping for the new part and it worked fine

Thank you for the response. Wonder how much this is going to cost to fix. Guess I will give the dealer a shout Monday
|
The dealers in the southbay (torrance) said $700. good thing i was still under warranty.
|
That's crazy, I read that someone did have it covered under the power train. Ill have to wait and see
|
^ yup i read one persons post where he was able to get it done under that warranty but most iv seen were not able to, good luck and let us know how it goes!
|
If that doesnt work out then chekc out ebay and you can buy the entire shifter assembly between ~$50- $125 and swap yourself or local mechanic for ~$100-200. Most dealers will replace the entire assembly anyways rather than just the module

Thanks guys for being so helpful, will keep everyone posted
Do any of you have paddle shifters? Do you know if they work without switching over to manual mode? I was actually going to grab a set today but this happened haha |
Paddle shifters were out too.

UPDATE
Went to talk to my local dealer today. Just wanted to let you know they did cover mine under powertrain although they were slightly hesitant at first. I think this is going to be a dealer to dealer thing, seems to be a grey area. Thankful that our local dealer has a really nice service adviser who understood that logically a shifter assembly should be part of the powertrain warranty. |
^ im glad you got it done under warranty! but like you said and form what iv seen it seems to be a dealership to dealership issue where some cover it while other cite it as an electronic issue not a mechanical powertrain issue and dont cover it.
