Transmission fluid leaking into Radiator

Hi All,

I am new to this. Own a 2008 G35X, 119,000 KM, and last week visiting the dealer for a noise check, was told the following:

-Transmission leaking into the rad, cause by a leak in the rad?
-Complete rad needs to be changed, 6 hrs, $2341.69 total
-Once the rad is replaced, we cannot guaranty the noise (when shifting) will go away
-Recommend change the Transmission $5747.00

Called Infinity Canada, gave me the run around and then told me I am on my own

Please help

search through there...

get yourself another transmission and call a local shop or a vendor from here that can install it locally for you.

Be sure to grab a warranty from the yard in which you are purchasing the Transmission (if that is the case)

Cheapest routes to go through is first and foremost:

Buy a new radiator.. While you are at it, change the thermostat and hoses. for added peace of mind.

FLUSH OUT the transmission. it may cost you upwards of 200-300 from the dealer but it's best to go this route and it can save you some dollars if it works. There is absolutely no guarantee's on this. Chances are if your transmission is grinding and slipping that's done. There's no coming back from that. but it's a chance you'd have to be willing to take on your own.

If you decide NOT to take that route you can just purchase one and have it installed by a local mechanic and/or vendor.

Personally radiators from the dealership are costly, so much so that you can get and aftermarket FULL CORE aluminium radiator for much less and it'll be a wise investment regardless of performance enhancement or just "peace of mind".

my 2 cents to this .

Thanks Eric,
I was told at the dealer, the whole Radiator has to be changed, it takes six hrs to change, and I am not getting the costs. The total job will be $2341, including 6 hrs (100/hr). If like you mentioned flushing the transmission costs $300, thats $900....Does a Radiator cost $1400?

Also Infinity Canada tells me I must go to Dealer, incase (IF) there was ever a recall on the Radiator I would get my money refunded. i.e. I should not go to a local mechanic as they would not refund the money.

Really stuck here, not sure which way or what to do.

Hi Sam,

I was just told yesterday the same exact thing with my G35. They claim the car was driven while overheating. I can tell you this NEVER happened as my wife only drives around town (<10 miles a day). The car was serviced by the dealer less than 6 weeks ago. What did you end up doing in your case?

Thanks,

Dan

With very limited tools and experience you can change a radiator on your own....
