Gains from intake systems?
Hey all, new here. Looking to pick up a 07-08 g35 sedan in the next few weeks, and I should have a good chunk of change to spend on a few mods after I sell my current vehicle. Now on to my question: Is there a notable gain, seat of the pants, or dyno worthy, from cold air, or short ram intakes on these cars? I know they sound, and look nice. I found one dyno sheet, for stillen, showing gains of over 16hp and almost 10 ftlbs.. but it was a dyno done by stillen.
Any independent before and after dyno's? Any tuners, or programmers for these cars that are worth a damn? If I'm asking these questions in the wrong place, or my questions are already answered in another thread feel free to flame! (as long as you post links :D ) I'm having a hell of a time finding answers about the 2nd gen VQ engines in my searches though Cheers! :driving: |
The stock intake is the best for HP while aftermarket only changes the sound. And a short ram will lose HP. Search short ram intake mythbusted on YouTube. They dyno before and after so you can see for yourself.

There are NO gains to be made with intake mods. Look up the thread: "Dynoing the myth out of intake mods".

For a tuner program, Osiris by uprev is the only way to go. Seymore4, a forum member, is a tuner that is highly recommend by your fellow forum members. I myself plan on having seymore4 do my tune. Or you can talk to the guys at uprev to hook you up with a dealer/tuner that is local to you.
As for the CAI side of things you're most bang for the buck is gonna be a ztube, k&n drop in filter, and either a 1/2 or 5/16 plenum spacer. Anything beside those intake mods is more for eye candy. |
Thanks guys! I'll look into all that. I figured there's not much to be had. My last car was an 07 Mustang GT, longtubes, cat delete's, cai, tuner, and it woke it up a whole lot, dyno'd 305 rwhp and 320 ftlbs, which is 20% increase to the wheels or so, but it was a night and day difference in how the power felt. The G's I've driven don't feel slow by any means, just a much different kind of power, much more high revving. I'm thinking I'll do a muffler delete, add paddle shifters, and then get some nice wheels and summer tires and call it a day honestly
That's for pre 07 though Hogbone, isn't it? |
I say get the Fast Intention exhaust. that would be better for you.
|
I looked at Fast Intention's, I may hold off on a muffler delete, and go for Fast Intentions if I have money left over after wheels. Most of the G's I've looked at have the 17's, which just look tiny on the G. gotta decide on 20's or 19's... 19's in theory are lighter, but not by much in the wheel's I've looked at, especially factoring in tires. And tire's for 20's are cheaper which blow's my mind (in 245/35/20, and 285/30/20) but not by much

But I also listened to a video of a Borla system and really liked that

I don't know which one I like better, they both have good sounds, just different.

I might try something custom, probably won't mess with highflow cats, because of emissions around here. Those coupes sound beautiful, does motordyne make sedan exhaust?
|
cmon guys... he is talking about the HR motor not DE. the dual intakes have been shown to give decent gains
