5AT is every 30k for a drain/fill, 7AT is technically non-serviceable but I would still get it drain/filled every 30k you just have to siphon from the overflow tube with a long hose since there's no drain plug.

Anyone else have a hard 2-3 upshift when in manual shift mode?

No clue when the fluid was last drained/replaced, thought it was good for 100K miles. Will need to do it soon, which fluid is recommended and any cheap links where to order it?

Only use Nissan Matic - J or S

Serge Mullen 03-14-2018 08:26 PM

I see Matic S has replaced J
Where do you buy yours from, online? How many quarts should i buy and drain/replace?

"Matic-J" or "Matic-S" is a spec, not a specific type of ATF so you can confidently use any reputable brand of ATF that meets the spec: Castrol, Amsoil, Valvoline, Redline, etc, etc. The amount that will drain seems to vary from 3 to 5 quarts so best to have 5 on hand just in case.

There's a huge difference between "meets factory specifications" and "factory fluid". The exact same difference applies to to all the bulk produced garbage replacement parts that "meet OEM specification" but only have a fraction of the lifespan the actual "oem part" gets.

I would never use anything other than genuine Nissan fluid in one of these AT's there are FAR too many cases documented on this and other forums where using other brands of fluid causes problems.

Same reason I would never use any cam or crank sensor other than the genuine Nissan ones even tho the aftermarket one's are all built to OEM spec...

I'd tend to agree, especially if you plan on keeping the car. This isn't some cheap civic that you simply want to keep running until you buy a nice car. ;-)

Some transmissions are super picky, some literally don't care what you put in it. The 4L80E in my Gmc Sierra is one of those that doesn't care what you put in it, it's basically the exact opposite of the RE5R05A.

That's because it was built to last.
