Door Locking and Alarm Setting
Door Locking and Alarm Setting
I have had my 07G35S for about 2.5 weeks and have some detailed technical questions on locking the doors and setting the alarm/immobilizer. My last car's (01 VW Passat) alarm system worked differently, and you had to insert some kind of metal device into the dashboard to start the car.
1. Is there any difference in how the car is protected (alarm set, immobilizer on) when you lock all the doors with the key fob (and the horn beeps) versus locking the car with the button on the door handle and the car chirps?
2. If I turn off the car, open the trunk with the dash switch, get out, close the door and lock the car with the button on the door handle, get my stuff out of the trunk and then close it, is the car just as locked, just as alarmed, etc., as if I were to then use the lock button on the key fob (and get the horn beep)?
3. Same question, but if I get out, lock the car with the button on the door handle, open the trunk with the key fob or button on the trunk and then simply close the trunk. Car is still locked. Alarm still set, all protection systems in place?
4. On my old car, as long as I shut the drivers door and hit the lock button on the key fob, then once all the doors or trunk were finally closed (regardless if they were open when I closed the driver's door and locked the car), the horn would beep letting me know the alarm was set. Can I close the driver's door and use the button on the door handle or the lock button on the key fob to lock the doors and set the alarm, regardless if other doors or the trunk are still open?
I am still working my way thru the manual, so my apologies if these detailed questions are well covered.
Thanks,
Mike

1. As far as I can tell, I don't see any differences.
2. Ok... Let me get this straight... If you opened the trunk with the button on the dash (next to VDC), get out of the car, lock the door on the handle, get the stuff outta the trunk and close it... it would be locked.
3. And... yes, it would be locked as well. I think you can find more info on these questions on the owner's manual as well.
4. it would give you a difference beep by telling you one or more doors are still open... I think.
So you'd have to close all the doors, including the trunk, and press on the button again to lock/set alarm.
Hope that was helpful.
