Tpms?....

Can you disable it through the computer? I used to have an Audi and you can control everything through the vag com which is the serial port under the dash. Hell it even control the radio and headlights. I was wondering if these cars were as technologically advanced.

i wouldn't mind having a way to disable it on demand so that the stupid light doesn't annoy me 4-5months out of the year that I have my snow tires on.

Almost all wheels accept the sensors. You just have to use the "L" brackets to put the sensor inside the wheels and use the existing valve like I did with my volks.

As for your question, I know there is not on the earlier model and I doubt they changed that. It is a safety system and disabling it is a no-no. I know that discount tire won't even mount new wheels on my car if they don't have the sensors in them per corporate policy.

Do all tire installers know the correct procedures for mounting these sensors? And would we need to buy 4 new sensors for aftermarket wheels?

Do you have any pictures showing how you did that? Thanks!

What also works (depending on wheel configuration) is to have a standard valve stem for filling and another hole drilled into the wheel just for mounting the TPMS in the inside wheel lip. Again, location depends on the shape of the wheel sections on a 3 piece or the barrel on a 2 piece.

Some people even band the sensor into the wheel and use a standard valve stem.

are you talking about a strap kit? I have heard of them, but am not familiar with how they work.

I don't have any pictures because we did it in the bay at Discount Tire. I put them on. They are an "L" bracket that goes on the base of the valve that came on the wheel and the sensor hooks on to the other end making it parallel with the barrel of the wheel instead of perpendicular. So the sensor is completely inside the wheel. Discount had them in stock.

This is the same kind of idea but his used some kind of band. Mine were a lot easier.

Putting mine in the SSR's was a major PITA so I watched them do it. Until then I was not aware that it is basically part of the valve stem. They should be able to put them into any wheels that you have if you get new ones. As for not having it with the snow tires, I'm not sure what you would do. I have no idea on the '07 (because I kept mine) but on Trey's '05 he opted to NOT get the TPM's installed on his aftermarket wheels. His light is NOT on all the time. It still comes on occasionally but it is not on all the time driving you nuts or anything.

a TPMS kit from tire rack costs 380 or so, but they say you can remove the TPMs from the stock tires and put them on whatever tire you buy.

$380 is a total rip off. You can call discount tire in Prescott, AZ and ask for Dale. See if the same kit ge got for Tim's Volks will work for you. He is a good friend and should be able to help.
