great info. tirerack recently posted some cheap MSW wheels in 17s. also, i would add that for those that live in weather that go near or below freezing but no snow, all season tires could be an option (either all season for the OEM wheels, the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season, or all season mounted on 17s).
the area where i live has cold temperature but very little snowfall (when there is snow, it is usually plowed quickly). i've been debating b/w 2 options:
option 1:
Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season for OEM wheels (approx. $900).
pros: same tires all year round; less hassle of switching tires/rimes; longer tread life; less overall cost b/c tires last longer than Bridgestones.
cons: slight compromise in dry/wet handling in summer; compromise in snow & wintry conditions (as opposed to dedicated winter tires); what to do with OEM Bridegstones.
option 2:
17 wheel/rim combo with all season tires (approx. $740 for Sumitomo HTR H4 & MSW Type 14 17x7).
pros: less initial cost than option 1; cheap rims to withstand the winter salt/sand; prolong Bridgestone OEM tires.
cons: more overall as Bridgestones have low tread life (replacing every 10 ~ 15K miles); less storage space; not true winter performance tires so winter handling is compromised.
the performance of summer tires is not too important to me, especially considering that Goodyear Eagle F1s are generally good tires. i would like to keep my overall cost down; however, i also do not put on many miles (less than 12K per year).
any thoughts/suggestions for DC region?

Never to early to start doing research. Also, the info listed was just what I found on Tire Rack. There might be other options as Redline9001 pointed out. I live in MD. So, the weather as I'm sure in other places is pretty crappy when it snows. I'm thinking of just grabbing a cheap pair of 17" for the limited amount of time I plan on actually using them.

Great info on this thread. Keep in mind that some of us have G Sports with max performance summer only tires and so must make tire switch earlier in the fall.
That said, what offsets are possible for 17" wheels with the Sport's larger front brakes? One Infiniti service manager said at least 45mm offset. Any other opinions out there?

I was wondering if anybody knew if the following wheels would fit on a '08 6MT G35 Sport Sedan: 18x8 5-114 ET35? I was planning on using these wheels all the way around for the winter with snow tires. I am concerned about the offset though...I was told that there will most likely be some rubbing on the fender b/c from what I've gathered the recommended offset should be somewhere between 40mm-45mm. I'm trying to see if that would be the case before I spend my money buying these wheels. I tried calling some online tire vendors but they weren't too helpful once they found out that I wasn't planning on buying anything from them (can't really blame them for that). Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone else diggin these 17's?

Especially for a winter setup, and at $101, I'm likin 'em!
And I'm a total winter noob, can someone tell me should I be changing to winter tires for SNOW (seems logical) or if it doesn't snow, should I be changing them at a certain temperature (once again, logic would tell me 32 degrees F for ice... but I figure it can't hurt to ask)

Just got the 2008 g35S. With Fall here (still seems like summer), need to consider either all-season or winter tires. From reading here looks like I can go with a new wheels and winter tires, new wheels and all-season performance tires like Michelin pilot A/S or the Goodyear eagle F-1, or replace my oem tires and put these all season on them. If I use the oem rims, I do not need tire pressure monitors and I can keep the rims.
Since we do not get snow here, but the temp drops below freezing late november to mid february, all seasons year round may be ok. I realize they are compromise, but I have really enjoyed the michelin pilots as the last 3 sets on my previous car. They car drove like it was on rails in dry and wet, and even did ok in washington d.c. 2-3" ice/snow storm.
Need to make decision in the next 10-20 days.
