What kind of oil are you guys using and are you useing 5w30? Also what kind of filters are you getting and where are you guys getting it from?

Amsoil 5w-30 and M1-108 oil filter.

 

Same as Virus: Amsoil 5-30 and M1-108. When did you switch to synthetic?

 

I haven't switched yet. I'm waiting for the 7500 drain interval. I've used Amsoil for 14-15 years and the M1 filters are cheaper for our vehicles than the Amsoil. I've had Nissans since 2002 and used this combo with 10k oil change intervals.

 

Virus, I haven't switched yet either, also waiting for at least 7,500. Am also a long time Amsoil user. I've read posts that argue that we should wait 'til at least 10,000 miles before switching. But the head mechanic at my Infiniti dealer said I could have switched to synthetic at 3750.

I've also read that Amsoil changed the formulation of their 5-30 and that their 0-30 (which I've also used) is perhaps better. Any opinions?

 

You can switch anytime, but from reading over the tons of oil analisys at maxima.org one thing is clear. The VQ's need a long breakin time. I might wait for the 3rd oil change. Switching early just prolongs the breakin time. I switched on the first oil change on my maxima years back.

0-30 is actually what I've mostly used. After deep soul searching and some great talks with the guy I buy my oil from, I decided the extra cost just wasn't worth it. It does give slightly better gas mileage, but not enough to offset the additional cost of the oil.

 

Yes, thanks so much, Virus, for your experienced advice. I've read and heard about the long break in for the VQ engines and am likewise leary about switching to synthetic too soon. As the G is my first Nissan product (had most recently an oil burning '97 VW Passat VR6) I am uncertain about when to go to Amsoil.

You confirm my thinking. I think I'll wait. In the meantime, what kind of nonsynthetic are you using? One Infiniti dealer in Brooklyn had a 10-30 AGIP, not even the 5-30 recommended. Summer weight? No thanks.

Do all VQ engines take the same oil filter? i.e nissan/inifiniti past and present?

 

I live in Carroll Gardens, what used to be called South Brooklyn. I haven't seen any other 07 Sport models in the metro area, lots of "Xs" though.

You can get the Mobil 1 108 oil filter at most Autozones and other speciality auto stores.

Amsoil is available through their dealers or you can become one yourself for $35 and get all their products at a nice discount. Go to their website and take a look.

 

I have no clue where that is but im from sunset part of brooklyn havent seen any other sports out there either beside my own. LOL

 

like many others i'm happily using amsoil 5w-30 but i'm also very happily using the EaO oilf filter... the price difference is what, a few bucks? amortized over 7500 miles, who cares?

 

Carroll Gardens is just north of Red Hook and south of Brooklyn Heights next to the BQE. I go down 4th Ave through Sunset Park almost every day on my way to work in NJ.

BTW, what color is your G?

 

I get free oil changes for the life of the car so it's a little different for me. I also have the voice in the back of my head that says, the cheapest route is to go to the dealer. I may just do that and stick with Amsoil in our 2k7 Nissan Quest. This would be my first car in 14-15 that I haven't put Amsoil in, but I generally don't keep cars long enough for it to matter. I'm torn, because I do love my G.
