DIY for HID replacement?

I searched for a while and I found a lot of information about which types of bulbs we have, etc., but I didn't actually come across a good explanation of how to change out our OEM HID bulbs.

I saw some details on how to change the fogs out, side markers out, interior lights out, however I didn't know if there were different steps/precautions when taking out adaptive headlights.

Can anyone give a quick DIY writeup of how to change out the OEM bulbs please? I'm about to pull the trigger on some 8000k bulbs, and want to make sure this is something that won't take me hours to do.

Also, when changing out the bulbs will the new bulbs need to be adjusted for their aim, or will they just plug right in and aim in the same manner?

Thanks in advance for any info.

... so 37 people have looked at this thread so far and no responses? does this mean that no one knows how to do this, or that the ones that do just dont want to lend a hand?

im not looking for a crazy, detailed instruction manual. id just like someone to basically sum up what has to be done so i can get an idea of whether its a huge PITA or not.

This is the procedure for the older gen sedans and coupes...probably pretty similar for the 07 Sedans https://g35driver.com/forums/body-interior-exterior-lighting-diy/125363-diy-headlight-housing-removal.html

First off... don't get 8000K bulbs, that would be considered a downgrade. Light output will decrease to almost as little as halogens and you will project a solid state blue light which looks ricey. At the very most get the 6000K Ultinons, which is a better compromise between color and output.

As for changing out the bulbs, I'm sure that getting access to the housing would be the biggest challenge. I'm not familiar with how to get to the housing on the G35 sedan, but once you are there, the D2S bulb should just twist and pop out. There is only one way to put it in due to the notch, so I don't think you can go wrong. Just make sure to not touch the bulb.

Man if you had a coupe I would help you out since you're local, but I have no idea what a sedan is like down there.

Forget about that 03-06 write-up, it's completely different with the 2nd gen sedans...

You only need to remove the clips that hold the front part of the wheel well cover in place (after rotating the wheels out of the way). When you take that off, you can reach in and rotate the cover behind the headlight and remove the bulb (it has one of those squeeze clips holding it in).

The cover comes off by rotating it counter-clockwise... it has two little ***** to help you grab it and rotate it on/off.

Pdubz has a good write-up with pics at g35nyc

That's pretty much how it's done on the 03-06s as well
